Can we not even keep religion out of football? Its bad enough being entrenched in the government (which its not supposed to be)

Let's just keep it out of everything. That way religious people have to go into holes in the ground and do their worshipping. Yea, let's do the same thing to them that the nonreligious feel is being done to them... forced participation, or forced nonparticipaton in this case. Sounds fair.

Unless you're a close minded freedom hating stick your nose in other people's business person, like you.

Then it is perfectly fine to force your beliefs on others.

So mourning your friends is forcing your beliefs on others? No, it's expressing grief. What next? We force them to remove their cross tattoos?

This post is one of the most ignorant things I've seen here posted in a while. There's nothing in the constitution that guarantees freedom from religion, but it certainly guarantees freedom of religion. This line of asinine reasoning represents everything that is wrong with America.

Allvol wasn't saying this was forcing beliefs on others, he was accusing Sly of doing that.

If the crosses were an option and not the only option then I don't see why it's not allowed.

Because it is state endorsement of a religion which is a violation of the US constitution?

How could one possibly perceive this as being a state endorsement of religion? Did Congress pass a law to force the team to wear these? The state legislature even?

I saw the stickers.. I couldn't have cared less.

I do understand why they were made to remove them but I think it could have (and maybe should have) just been a non-issue.

How? The cross was in remembrance of a man who was dear to their hearts. To see anything else is just looking to complain about anything that hurts your PC liberal sensibilities.

Wrong. So because ASU put a cross on their helmet, that automatically means the whole state is endorsing religion? Please tell you're joking.

This was not a constitutional issue. This was a knee jerk, ignorant overreaction to a simple non-issue.

Just another ridiculous attempt to remove God from our country.

Its called seperation of church and state. Its in the constitution. A state University is funded by the state. The state paid for the uniforms. The state endorsed Christianity. It is a clear violation of the constitution. The constitution should never be violated, thats how crazy people still have guns. You cant just pick and choose which constitutional amendments are enforced or followed.

Agreed. If the whole team wasn't forced to do it, this seems like a non-issue.

Okay, say a player chose not to wear the cross. That players will likely be ridiculed, harassed, probably called a Satan worshipper, and outcast by all of the Christians because that is what Christians do. If you dont share their beliefs, you are below them or evil. To avoid this, the player will probably just keep his mouth shut and go along with it. You just forced religion on someone.

No, in general Christians do not call them Satan worshipers. In fact no matter which side you are on, if what you are saying is not out of love or right motive, it would be wrong. Point is I could be right about something, but say it out of with hate, and I would be of just as wrong.

Here you go. You can use this for any further sweeping generalizations. Because that's what teammates do (Christian or otherwise)... is call other players on their team "satan worshippers".
