ROFL.....the people that have defended cops shooting minorities over MIGHT having a gun are now losing their sh** over a person breaching a barrier in the got dam Captiol building.
I swear to god the insanity.
Who is celebrating? She was involved in a riot, smashing in doors and was dumb enough to go first through the barricade. Facts. Deal with it.
She was actively crawling through a broken window in a door to get into a locked room in the Capitol. I take that as actively rioting. I can't find it anymore, but shortly after the riots, I posted a link to an interview with a Congressman who said he was in the room, there were other Congressmen in the room, and the other exits had rioters at the doors as well.
Was the cop justified? I don't know because I don't know what was on the other side of that door and I dont know what happened prior to the brief video we've seen. Take it for what its worth.
Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances.
Two points:
1 - No government body gave any real consideration to charges of voting irregularities - that was the point of the protest. Government ignored those who petitioned for redress of grievances.
2 - The summer was one of continual rioting by a different group who decided their grievances weren't heard. Lack of response seemed to dictate the terms of "the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances"
It seems that the people protesting at the capitol were actually taking their issues more directly to those who weren't listening than those who spent a violent summer in the streets - including in DC. Form a less decisive government that doesn't pit groups against each other and politicians should have nothing to fear. This was a case of politicians getting a taste of what they set in motion.
Plenty of people were celebrating afterwards. And you're still omitting a large portion of the conditions to include the fact there was an entire tac team behind her asking with a plain clothes officer. Both of which looked shocked that it happened.
Don't see how any of that matters specifically to Babbitt breaching a room that potentially sheltered trapped members of Congress, but I'll play ball.
1 I disagree with the premise that this was ignored, but even then there were members in the Senate and House who were using the electoral certification process to try to debate the issue when they were interrupted by the riot.
2 It was not peacable. I posted some pics awhile back of the "mainly peaceful protesters who stayed in the velvet ropes and took selfies." You should check them out.
The capitol demonstrators were intending to "address" congress, and BTW that's been done several times in the past when demonstrators actually interrupted congressional proceedings - they were generally from the left, though. It makes a lot more sense for demonstrators to "address" those they disagree with. Remember the Trump rallies and the demonstrators attempting to silence and disrupt what he said because it didn't match their beliefs, but that was OK because the politics were reversed? Wouldn't it make more sense to force congress to listen than to burn down a CVS and loot as a message? If protestors were allowed to take over a police station and destroy it, what's the difference with the capitol - size? The message that should have come from this is for politicians to quit dividing the country ... they haven't.
