Hoping for something like that is ok, but you can't allow hope to engrain unrealistic expectations. That's what it is for Dobbs for many on this board. It's cool too. It's even cooler to accept the resultsI get your point. Me saying I hoped for something is different than saying they should have done it. I’m not saying they should have done it. I hoped for lots of things in life. Doesn’t mean it should have been reality.
I was referring simply to his time in Pittsburgh due to their knack for using mobile qbs. I’m not among the group that thinks he should be a starting NFL qb. I simply hoped maybe we’d see him used a few times in different ways. Again, not saying they should have even done it.Hoping for something like that is ok, but you can't allow hope to engrain unrealistic expectations. That's what it is for Dobbs for many on this board. Yeah, at the time I hoped for it too. I actually thought he might become Ben's backup for several years, then given a shot at starter when Ben retired. Apparently his camp work and scrimmagging didn't impress them enough to go that route. Backup QBs can be expensive on the second deal, relatively speaking. Most clubs aren't going to give a backup a 2 or 3 year deal nowadaysI was referring simply to his time in Pittsburgh due to their knack for using mobile qbs. I think he was over thinking it after he learned the plays. And after the Saints game, his future opponents had enough film on him to put an end to his surprising play. He regressed from that point on for a reason. The intelligence and ability to learn an offense doesn't equate to playing instincts, which he is short on to play QB regularly in the NFL. He can play in a pinch, which is why teams are willing to bring him in when their top 2 QBs are hurt. That's a damn fine accomplishment!
That’s been a trend with him this season. When he was playing backyard football and didn’t know the plays with the cards and vikes he thrived. Once he learned the system he struggled. I’m not sure if that’s on him or if the defenses got game film on him and adapted their gameplan.I think he was over thinking it after he learned the plays.
Over thinking it and wanting it to bad. I would say being a backup for 6 years and knowing this is your shot will do that. That’s been a trend with him this season. The reality is that even if he gets the job somewhere as QB2, that’s probably overachieving for him. He still has done more than I thought he would at this point, and he’s making a ton and likely will be getting that pension . He can lock up a roster spot somewhere, I’d guess, but he has value even as a QB 3 for the other stuff he brings. Honestly, Cleveland was and maybe still is the best situation for him. Offenses run better when they make a change from him. He’s had some things beyond his control affect him, but then you see other guys come in and still able to get the offense going. As much as we love him and wanted him to be a starter, he’s not one and he won’t be one, and I think even he has accepted that and is fine with it, as he should be. He’s had a nice career, all things considered, and he’s gonna be super rich.Yeah, at the time I hoped for it too.
