You're overreacting. Even if we didn't have violence in entertainment, we would still have deranged people that would commit violence.

Sure, he may just walk into a mall and start shooting rather than dressing up like a super villain and throwing teargas. Either way, this kid was going to kill.

I'm not buying that. I'm more in agreement with Count. We've got more violent entertainment than ever before but it has little impact? Where were the deranged people in the 20s and 30s? Or 40s and 50s?

Is it just a coincidence that the world has gotten more violent and morally corrupt or am I just imagining it?

Is it a coincidence that malls play certain types of music to influence a happy mood which tends to make shoppers spend more money?

Does certain smells or music trigger different emotions in human beings?

This is not made up BS.

It has an effect

Stories are more readily available due to social media, etc. The deranged killers were here in the 20s and 30s. Were you around to remember them?

no were just infinitely more aware of it as the world becomes smaller. How long would it have taken for this story to make it to China 100yrs ago?

Columbine is not far from Aurora.

Maybe society has a place in why these things happen. Truth is, someone wants to do this they can get the things they need to pull it off.

We also institutionalzed many if these people in the past. Violent crimes, mass killings, crazed murder, all these have happened thru time. Nothing new, but still sad none the less. I've watched violent movies, listened to violent music, and played violent games my entire life and yet yo go on a rampage. In fact, I know about 100 people just like me. What makes these people break is mental illness.

How did that get reported with no social media back then?

pretty sure you know that's not the point at all. I'm sure it was in most newspapers within a week or 2 but how many had daily access to that? Now compare how many have access to this story and how quickly

If people have mental illness they are already broken. Violent entertainment becomes the catalyst.

Let's hope you and your 100 friends stay mentally competent.

What do we expect when we spoon feed kids violence everyday through T.V, movies, music, video games, etc. ?

Yet we dont tell them right from wrong

This world is going to hell in a handbasket and its our fault

One day, hopefully, people will wake the f up

yea cause of course violence in movies is the reason for dumbass people. i guess Cain was playing GTA when he decided to kill Abel

Large majority of the population had access to that story, of violent men killing other violent men. I fail to see the significance of how quickly the populace receives the story. If I heard it today it makes me think there's more violence? But if I don't hear it till tomorrow, not so bad?

no the point is that the amount of violence has likely not changed as a % of population but the exposure is at the highest level ever.

There is a difference there

That was other Mafia being taken out by Capone

Those were not innocent people

That was the Mob culture.

so violence isn't simply violence? Can we exclude all violence that comes from war too since that's just 2 countries fighting? Can we now exclude video games since many are shooting monsters or other military types?

 You don't even know what you're trying to argue!

By not answering you tell me that you have seen and have not killed. That's my point. I never said anything about how the news got to me, just why the killings take place IMO. So yes, I do know what I am debating. Nice try though.
