At what point do we get credit for a "quality win"?

OU and NC State are terrible. Those are not quality wins. Florida will be at least a 5 loss team this year so that win gains us nothing, especially since it went to OT at home. Bama was a quality win - they were ranked 7th and had a win over Georgia in their resume’. Need to pull off the upset at Georgia which is a big ask

First NC State was good, then they weren't. Then OU was good, then they weren't, Now Bama is not good? What a crock of Sh^t. Media are in for the clicks, that is how they get paid. The more controversial they are the better they get paid, Look at Stephen A, he has made a living off saying crazy stuff.
Bama is a quality win, but NC State and OU are definitely not good teams. That's pretty clear.

The media didn't make NC State lose to Wake or Okla get blown out by SC. Just because those teams aren't as good as advertised doesn't me we aren't good. I think they have us ranked about right.
Oklahoma never was great but they have had multiple injuries especially on offense since we played them and we exposed their QB and now their backup gifted USCjr with 3 defensive TDs in first 5 minutes of the game, that was a recipe for disaster even Beamer couldn't lose after that.. OU is a perfect example of when things start going bad for 18-22 year old's confidence and all can just be lost & the negative starts to rear its head and the ones that live for that propagate it .
They even re-inserted Jackson Arnold for his 5th game killing his plan to take a play 4 game redshirt season.

Bama was the 3rd ranked team we beat. Some teams like Miami don’t even play a ranked team all season long. What more do they want?

Anytime you beat FL, GA or AL it’s a quality win no matter their record. TN beats number 7 at the time but it’s not a quality win? BS! Beating OU at OU isn’t a quality win? BS!

Truth, and it also applies when they praise us. This is why I give zero credence to national media opinions and watch/listen to none of it before or after games and through the week. Whatever is going to generate clicks/views/listens is what you'll see and hear, and hot takes are more the rule than exception.

I think we’d be hearing less about this if our wins looked “prettier”. If our offense was cranking it would be more about how good we are, and think winning ugly doesn’t get us style points. Crazy thing happening…we are playing all these “not so great” teams on our way to 6-1, while other teams schedules don’t look so different.
Votes are still given for style…

I will say I don’t want to be tied with the tide at the end of the season bc if so, who you think they’re gonna put in the playoffs? History says Bama even though we own the h2h. We need them to lose again imo

IKR and some of the teams that are not doing well now, were doing pretty well before we played them, it’s like they got dismantled afterwards 😂 I think our defense is leaving a path of destruction 😂 the exception being Florida, they seem to be getting it together.. it’s just a weird year in the SEC in general

I was listening to the Sports Animal earlier and they had a guy on there saying that Bama wasn't a quality win for us and we really need to beat Georgia in Athens. Bama was literally favored to beat us and we won and now all of a sudden it isn't a quality win. People who say the media hates Tennessee aren't looking so crazy now.
I feel with Georgia beating Texas at Texas gives Tenn more credit with beating Turd. Vols need to finish strong and do not overlook anyone.

Because the national media considers the Vols as suspect, if we beat another team they are deemed a non-quality opponent. Simply because the Vols won. Of course, N.C. State and OK were initially considered quality wins, their current records don't support that narrative.

A team being "ranked" when you play them doesn't carry alot of weight if they turn out to suck. How would you respond to say a Georgia Tech fan who equated their victory over "Top 10" Florida State to our win over Bama? You would laugh, and rightfully so. Bama is a quality win but right now it looks like our only one, which is okay. We are only 7 games into the season and most teams don't have more than 1 quality win, if that.

Yes, the goal posts seem to move week to week, but I think some of this has to do with the fact that the Vols haven’t come close to playing up to their potential on offense. The team seems one dimensional so far - a great defense that keeps them in games and then slipping by with barely enough offense to squeak out a win . . . the pathetic no-show at Arkansas doesn’t help either.

In any case, this team has grit. And the defense is special. I am hopeful that Nico grew up in the second half this weekend because he has not been playing like the talent that he is. Plus, I hope the offensive line also found its bearings.

We just need to take care of business the rest of the way. That stupid, inexcusable Arkansas loss won’t be balanced out completely without a win over UGA - although the Bummer win went a long way. We just seem to like to make it hard on ourselves, but sitting at 6-1 with wins over OU, UF, and Bummer is not a bad place to be.

I heard it yesterday a couple of times.

Rankings really don’t show which teams are really “quality” teams until after at least six games. And preseason rankings are just wild guesses or predictions. You can’t tell much the first 3-4 games with power teams playing so many cupcakes. Heck, after 10 games there is a lot of questions who should be the top 4.
