Their defense was alright. They stopped everybody else on the Texas squad, aside from Vince Young.
That's like saying Fresno State stopped everyone except Reggie Bush.

I'm saying it doesn't really matter. It doesnt mean a defense is bad just because they cant stop Reggie Bush or Vince Young.

I am under the impression that another bad season will come with drastic consequences. I've read that in a couple of reports. What are some thoughts at possibilities if UT goes 8-4 or worse??

6-6 or worse will result in cataclysmic changes. The Butch Davis era will be upon us.

What?

No Alabama?

I thought this was the year they win their 47th National Title.

I guess we can dismiss this poll. :p

I think 8-4 is pretty realistic with losses to Cal, Florida, LSU, and Ga. Cal, FL, and LSU are all preseason top 10. GA is top 15. I don't think 8-4 will result in any changes just more complaining.

If we don't win at least one game that we're supposed to lose, and win all that we're supposed to, I believe Phil is going to be squarely on the hotseat.

8/4 might not be good enough, depending on who is available in the head coaching field.

This team is not lacking athletes. They're there. Just check out the last 4 recruiting seasons. Last year was down, but the 3 previous years were 1, 9, and 7 in descending order.

An 8/4 finish with the players we have is not acceptable.

Anything worse than 8/4 will likely produce major change.

This will all be a mute question since we'll likely go no worse than 10-2 regular season.

"Mute question?" We can't hear or speak about it?

UT had a lot of talent that graduated regardless of the record last year. There's going to be a lot of new, inexperienced players on the D and O lines. The secondary is back, but they were not that good IMO, they benefited from probably the best front 7 ever at UT.

Ainge has had 2 yrs to recover from shoulder surgery, even if he turns around, very tough schedule.
I actually think SC will be tough and Kentucky could surprise. Sanders has a good understanding of UT's personnel weaknesses they will have a good game plan. Brooks has to beat someone like UT to save his job.

I think next year schedule is brutal. Arkansas has always played UT tough. With Spurrier at Sc, there's no real breather until Vandy.

We'll LIKELY go no worse than 10-2 in the regular season? I think we have no shot in hell of going 10-2.

I'd be very happy with 10-2. I'd also be pretty surprised if we pull that off.

However, its kind of nice to be in a position where we have a chance of exceeding expectations again. It seems like the general consensus is 8-4. I think we can meet or slightly exceed that (i.e. 9-3).

After last year, the obvious step ought to be a bowl game. If we don't get to one with our schedule, I will join the "can Fulmer" crowd.

Not with that attitude.

Not with that attitude.

Look, we're basically replacing our entire front seven on defense. Our offensive line will probably be average at best. Our wide receivers have not shown the ability to consistently produce on the field in real games. Our quarterback is coming off of an atrocious season, and he is backed up by a veteran QB with no game experience and a redshirt freshman QB coming off of shoulder surgery with no college experience whatsoever other than Spring practice. When you add all of that to an absolutely BRUTAL schedule, you're not realistically looking at a 10-2 season. A 9-3 season this year would be a huge success.

Fans can be skeptical all they want.

Very true, and anyone that thinks that things we say here has any effect on the team's performance is clearly delusional.

There's a reason the coaches tell the players not to pay attention to the media.

Yep...to keep the team from getting over confident. As we all know, though, Fulmer's players don't even have to pay attention to the media. Fulmer will ensure that they're over confident by telling them in the offseason how great they are. Hopefully he's learned from his past mistakes in this area.

I was saying the team won't have much of a chance to win if they don't think they can in the first place. I don't care what you think about it.
