They should have resigned him to a one year deal and wait for Pastor/Simmons.

Just didn't like the move.

Oh, and we got zero Chipper insurance.

I like Wren, and maybe it was the payroll was capped, but I did not like this offseason.

Horrible offseason. I thought thinks needed to shuffled up a bit after the collapse. Jury is still out on Greg Walker maybe he can revive the bats. But he is not off to the best start

Ted doesn't have enough money left to do it anyway.. And the TV deals previous ownership locked us into are what's killing payroll anyway.

In case you needed anymore sunshine this mornIng .... Chipper apparently is already concerned about his knee and has expressed some doubts about being able to make it through the year.

Not sure if that's legit or just an old guy sore after a couple of weeks of spring training.

It is legit. We will be lucky to get 95 games out of him this year. His knee is completely shot. Even when he does play it is going to be further evident that he is a shell of his former self. SS and 3B are going to be HUGE HOLES this year. Hopefully Jurrjens comes out dealing, so we can maximize his trade value. That is our only hope for those spots this year

I haven't been able to watch any spring training games yet. With all the Chipper retirement talk, how far off is Terdo? Everything I've read about him talks about his great stick and that he's off to a hot start. In case of Chipper not making it through the year, what are the chances of Terdo coming up rather than moving Prado in and adding a LF bat?

Terdo is a year off, due to fielding. But I do fully expect him to be a late September call up for a cup of coffee. If he puts up good numbers in Mississippi that is...

J Terd's problem is not having a true position. But his bat and ability to pound gaps, makes up for it. I still see him as an outfielder, but he is going to get his chance at the hot corner.. but no way we can field two rookies on the left side of the infield and expect to be a contender.

I knew the knock on him is that his bat does not quite match up with a position (not enough pop for 1B, not quite enough glove - yet - for 3B), but haven't seen him action. Is he athletic enough to play LF at the MLB level?

We're not acquiring a SS. We need a LF. Have for at least a decade now.

I think he is athletic enough to be an average outfielder. I see him being a Josh Willingham type major leaguer.. above average hitter.. but leaves you wanting a little more defensively.

For whatever reason, I just don't see him sticking at
3rd. Too hard too hide at third.

Ok, let's field two rookies who aren't major league ready and you'll be singing a different tune

I didn't say long term. I am talking this season. If Chipper can't go, we are going to need some experience on the left side of the infield. Fact. Our only hope at filling that gap is via trade. I know we need a power hitting left fielder. So does Wren, but who are we going to get Carlos Quentin? Nah. There really aren't that many or any quality left fielders on the market right now. Hopefully that will change before the trade deadline, assuming we aren't sellers.

If you think he projects more as an average fielding corner OF, the Braves' need for a solid LF bat, Salcedo (hopefully) moving quickly through the minors, and him possibly not being able to handle 3B, why do you think he is working at 3B and not LF?
[re-reading before I submit, and that question sounds kind of condescending, haha. It's legit question, not meant to sound condescending at all.)

At first, I was a little peeved at Wren's lack of a big acquisition this off-season, but when I saw the $$$ that some guys were getting, I realized that making a trade DURING the season was probably the best option; not just financially, but also in regards to who may be available.

Haha, good question. evidently the organization doesn't see it like I do or they have other plans for left field. I do not understand why they moved him to third, where he has very little experience opposed to the outfield where he is a little more seasoned. He struggled at times at first last year and was very average in A ball defensively, that is why I am confused as to why they are moving him to an advanced position when he can play left, which is another position of need. We will see, he has moved around a lot, maybe he will stick at third. He has actually been solid there this spring.

I'm not stating what I think should happen. I'm stating my opinion of what's actually going to happen. We won't acquire a SS. Simmons is the guy and they will not block him.

That's the thing about Chipper, isn't it? He's such a drama queen that you never know. If there's another player who talked so incessantly in public about how much his body hurts all the time, I don't know who it is. We get it, Chipper. You want us to think you're a warrior. Now shut up and either play or don't.

The guy had the gall to call out Heyward last year for not playing through injuries, and now he can't make it through spring training without cranking this crap up. The Braves were idiots for standing pat this offseason and just taking it for granted that Chipper is still a signficant everyday player. It's like being strung along by Brett Favre every year, only if Favre's arm strength was gone and he could only play in 9 games a year.

He really cannot retire fast enough. The team needs to move on.

Well, actually, his words were taken out of context and was describing what he said in jest.

So, I don't think it's that.

Also, Chipper is 40. Jason is 22.

You think they will go with Simmons over Pastornicky? Simmons is obviously the more talented of the two.. but has never played above A ball. Would be a huge jump. But, Furcal got called to the show despite never playing above AA or AAA and that worked out pretty damn well.
I personally want to ride with Simmons if we have to have a rookie SS. Kid is composed. Has a straight rocket too, hit 98 on the gun in college.
