Atlanta Braves II

The health of the starting pitcher rotation scares me more than anything right now. Like mentioned above, the Braves can go through the 7th, 8th, and 9th innings as good as anyone. But those first 6 innings are what concerns me.

Also, they need to get the SS situation resolved soon, so whoever it is can prepare properly, instead of rotating games. That's probably not going to happen until right before they leave for Atlanta, though.

Well, yes, up until the beginning of September after you put 90+ appearances on relievers...

Chipper announced he is retiring at the end of the season.

Are we sad just because it's been made official or because you're finding out he's retiring? This isn't exactly news is it? If memory serves me correctly, he was going to this last year until he got hurt, no? Hell, hasn't there even been talk about him not being able to make it out of spring training?

Both. Chipper was thinking about playing 2013.

Still sad to hear it's actually happening.

This is officially the end of the dynasty. I know it kinda was with Bobby, but still.

Why can't people mourn the final piece of the 90's braves? Man I wish it was the 90's again. UT football and Braves baseball at their best :cray::cray:

Chipper said this is it. No set of circumstances will change that.

Wants to be a full time dad.

Said it will be a couple years if he decides to get into coaching.

With the gross mismanagement of the bullpen down the stretch, do you feel like Fredi is on the hot seat this year? I know he's Bobby's guy, but I'm not sure Wren is all that crazy about Fredi as a manager.

Just a different way of looking at it, I guess. Love what Larry did as a member of the organization and I hope that there is a way for him to stay a part of it going forward, whether it's in coaching or some other aspect if that's what he decides he wants to do.

However, it's time for him to retire. At this point I don't think it's great for him or the team to have him as the number 1 option at 3B. I hope he has one hell of a farewell tour and stays healthy to play all season, I just don't think it's likely. Couple that with the moves the FO didn't make in the offseason and I'm a worried about some of the lineups we'll be throwing out there come July and August.

I am right there with you. I am really worried about this season.

Is Chipper a first ballot hall of famer? He's arguably the greatest switch hitter of this generation.

If he's not, I don't know what one is supposed to look like. There just aren't many guys who have done what he's done playing 3B.

I agree he should be a shoe in for a first ballot but some of the voters think being a first ballot guy is a sacred thing and don't vote for guys just because they think it should only happen in cases they see fit. Chipper's #3 all time in homeruns by a switch hitter trailing only Mickey Mantle and Eddie Murray, that alone should get him in on the first ballot.
