Atlanta Braves II

Honestly my last post on Escobar. I'm not saying he's all world offensively or defensively, but he is certainly above average at both. In a world where shortstops are rarely competent at hitting AND fielding, having someone who is above average at both would be nice. Not to mention rocket arm.

Carry on, Jason Heyward.

Maybe to you.

Some of the names on that list don't even belong in the same breath. Also, track records are great, but Escobar is better than Jeter at SS right now, and it's not close.

I know what I'm getting with Jeter.

I have no idea what I'm getting with Yunel.

Okay, off of Yunel.

I don't know, but I've watched five games so far and the Hey-Train has looked freaking fantastic in every single one.

Mixed results, it seems...

@SultanofStat

It's another example why spring stats misleading: Heyward hitting .209 with 18 K's, but now has 2 2B, 3 HR. And looks better than the stats.

I really hope Heyward bounces back this year, good kid. Has to learn to make adjustments and utilize opposite field. He does that and the ceiling is very high.

Yeah, Heyward's number certainly do not reflect the swing he has been putting on display throughout the spring. In the games that I have watched he has been hammering stuff middle in.

Eh, missing a couple of spring training game isn't bad. As a side note, OUR OFFENSE SUCKS.

There have been certainly be times where runs have been a struggle, I agree. I was, however, surprised to see that both Uggla and Freeman were tied with 6 HRs each for the NL lead (3rd and 4th respectively in RBIs) and Bourn in 3rd for Runs in spring ball. Of course, this won't hold for the season you would imagine but it's a non-negative, if you will. :)

Oh, and Jurrjens is raking it at .667. lol

Prado, Uggla, and McCann have excellent OBPs as well. .414, .393, and .389 respectively. .712 slugging for Uggla ain't too shabby either. Hell, Uggla's slash line is quite superb.

My last Escobar post too. I don't disagree with any of this. He's a good shortstop and the Braves pretty much have jack in the organization now. I don't think any of us disagree that, on paper, it's turned out to be a crappy trade. I think the only thing I disagree with you and Scotty on is whether the Braves really were in a situation where Escobar flat-out had to go, and none of us were in that clubhouse. I'm willing to take what the players said at the time at face value and say yes. You're not, which is perfectly reasonable since players often overestimate how important chemistry is. And there's simply no way any of us can ever know.

Have the Braves ever signed a Boras guy? Heck, have they ever negotiated with him.

Greg Maddux. And then they extended him with basically no fanfare or difficulty when the contract ran out. You got the sense that Maddux was calling the shots instead of Boras though.

I think Andruw was a Boras client when he did the end-around and negotiated an extension directly with Schuerholz.

I can't think of any Boras client they've signed since Boras really became Scott Boras, Dark Lord Of The Sith.

You guys know more about this than I, so I'll just ask the question...

With Bourn likely leaving in the offseason and Chipper retiring, is ATL in a decent position to make a push for Josh Hamilton?

No thank you for Hamilton.

Despite the fact he's 31 and injury plagued, and his numbers are inflated at TBAA, him and the Atlanta Night Scene would just be a bad idea.

Not saying they don't hate Boras, but he's not Furcal's agent.

I lol'd. Might as well blame Boras. Why not?

I don't think the ATL night is any worse (or better, depending on your perspective) than DFW area night scene. Nor do I think that matters. Hamilton is inclined to drink alcohol when he has the urge to drink alcohol, not because "that club is so cool, bro"
