Atlanta Braves II

It's baseball. There's a whole lot more random action going on this sport than any other. There are still going to be lengthy stretches this year when this team struggles to score runs.

It's great while it lasts though, isn't it?

Of course, I'm just trying to be as relative about the current stretch as possible. There's always ups and downs, but I do not think anyone imagined that when this team was up that they would be like this.

I was jut giving you a hard time. I know this is going to burst of homerism but I think this team is definitely closer to how we have been playin as compared to how we started if that makes sense.

I am not sure what was with this team those first four. I certainly agree that that season-opening team is not this team at all. At the same time they are not the 1927 Yankees either, but they have shown and they now know that they score runs. That should no longer be a stigma with this team. Unless they are all mental midgets when times get a little tough they should look back on this stretch and know that they are capable of this type of production.

I said during spring training that the Braves had enough upside to be the best team in the league, and this is what that upside looks like. It's potentially a fantastic lineup if everybody hits; couple that with what should be stellar pitching and this team can beat anybody. Everything revolves around what Heyward and Freeman do at the plate, and right now it's really clicking.

I was simply referring to 10-runs/gm type production. lol

Freeman is such a good 1B that it makes you wonder why they never tried him at a more valuable defensive position. Doesn't have the arm to play 3B, I guess? He's right-handed, so that's not it.

That's how you know it's an aberration.

It's also worth keeping in mind that the Braves haven't played any good teams at all yet.

It's too early to really know who is bad, who is horrible, who is capable, and who is strong. Excluding Houston, of course. :)

Regardless, even if all of their opponents are "bad" teams then they are beating bad teams as a good team should.

His glove is a vacuum. Judging from that throw from first to second on the double play last inning, his arm is just fine.

They were just talking about how he has one of the best arms on the team.

His glove is great; he moves around great for a big guy. If he could handle the quick scoop and throw across the diamond from 3B, then they should have tried him at 3B at some point to make him the heir apparent to Chipper. The throw from first to second is a whole lot different than the throws you've got to make from third though.

I'm just curious why they never seriously tried it, is all. He sure looks like too good a fielder to be playing the easiest position on the field. It's like taking the most athletic guy on a football team and making him a long snapper.

I don't understand why Durbin is up. He obviously needs work on all of his stable pitches. His slider is weak and his cutter is scary bad. Just seems like a guy that needs to get some work in the minors to improve his stuff.

Well, perhaps if you have an 80 year old third basemen, a rookie SS, and popeye at second you figure you need a vacuum at first to save some outs.

He's 34 years old. He isn't ever getting any better. He's supposed to be here to chew up innings in throwaway situations, and that's it. Inexplicable why Fredi's been using him in anything other than three-run-or-more games.

Well, yes. It's definitely useful now. I'm just wondering why they didn't try him anywhere else four years ago in the minors. Long term, it's a waste.
