It's definitely needed. I buy hitting a hotshot rookie before hitting a guy who took you deep. Make a better pitch.

It' was the only way to pitch him inside. Anything not near his jersey was hit into the seats in LF (at least when he played ATL)

I'm not saying I would have hit Harper or agreeing that it wasn't asinine. I'm saying I would hit Harper (given his reputation, fair or unfair) before I would hit Heyward (who stands nowhere near the plate) for homering.

Yep.. he killed us for a while, especially his one year in Washington. He was raking, hit 46 HRs and 41 doubles but didnt crack 100 ribs. Washington had a bad club that year to say the least

I'm starting to get excited about your boy Gattis. Not full on boner alert like you, but headed that way. I've been catiously optimistic for several reasons, but he is flat raking. Maybe we'll actually have a LFer one day.

I was nervous about the whole "He's 25" thing, but he is raking at Mississippi now. Also, he was a big time college prospect. He had a lot of skills. I'm excited about him. Just read where "older" prospects are an undervalued commodity in baseball.

Exactly. Delgado has one slip away, one of the best young hitters in the game has his career altered. Ain't worth it. I don't want it to take the inside part of the plate away from any pitcher, at all, but the old school baseball sentiment is annoying.

I don't condone throwing at someone's head, but plunking a guy is very elementary to the game of baseball, and necessary in certain situations. Tonight at Wrigley being one such situation.

He drilled Heyward on purpose and literally ran his mouth about it knowing he wasn't coming up to bat. This is how the game is played..someone on the cubs, preferably Castro, wears one. As far as altering careers, I think Castro is competent enough to get his hands out of the way. It's hard to miss someone's back though.

I wouldn't throw at guys for showing me up. But I absolutely would throw at the other team for hitting my own players. Tit for tat is how the world works. You hit somebody in the ribs tonight and then you have Freddie tell him when he's standing at first that he can thank Samardzija for the bruise.
