Atlanta Braves II

Haha, man get that outta here.

Just goes to show how bad this organization is hurting for a stud LF, Gattis bust on the scene and I act like 12 year old at a Jonas Bros concert. Ha.

He's already 25 years old. They need to get him to Atlanta as fast as possible.

If it weren't for the fielding thing, in fact, I'd say they should go ahead and bring him up now and find out if maybe he's the guy who make the desperate need for a trade for an OF bat moot. But he's only played outfield a handful of times; it'd be risky to bring him up and throw him out right out there.

Not sure why the Braves have been screwing around with him at C to begin with, when he's 25 years old and has McCann and Bethancourt in front of him.

Because they didn't realize he was this good.

Well last year was more of wash, he was weighing in at like 265 or 270 so he had to cut his teeth behind the dish. Once he dropped 30 I think that is when the lightbulb went off.. but yes ideally he would have been there from day 1.

I've been in favor of moving Bourn at the deadline, but I wouldn't dare mention it here amongst his biggest fans. No sense in letting someone walk.

However, the right deal would be almost impossible because we have nothing in terms of replacing him in CF (unless you wanna run Heyward out there for a few months), only a contending team would have a need for him (why would they trade us a bopper when in contention), and trading an integral piece (hopefully) during a stretch run a) won't play well with the fans and b) would be ballsy as hell/a potentially fireable offense.

Exactly that is why I said we would need a 3rd team to get involved. But yes, I have thought about moving him too at the deadline.. but I figured this might be the last place on earth to discuss it. ha

The truth will set you free. I am on your side. Racists unite.

The process is (or should be) a lot different when a guy comes into the organization at 23, 24 years old. You don't have six years to develop him, figure out where his best position is, etc. Plus he's taking at-bats away from players that you are going to get a chance to develop fully. You shouldn't take a player like that to begin with unless you think there's a path to get him to the majors in two or three years, tops. Once he started killing it in the Sally League last year, he should have been moved to the outfield immediately with an eye towards getting him to Atlanta as fast as possible.

You have to keep him if you think the team's got a shot to win a championship -- which basically means if you think you can make the playoffs. Make a run, let him walk, take the two compensatory draft picks.

I would agree, but we just finished drafting mike minor and sean gilmartin so I'm a little down on that process for us.

Hypothetically, if we were to move Bourn for a big bat, who do you bat leadoff?

Honestly I believe this lineup is more than fine. At this rate, we may need to trade for a pitcher (ha). I just hate the thought of that much (inflated) value walking out the door without maximizing it, especially given our budget constraints. I don't care about the pick because we don't need anymore polished college lefties with no upside that peaked before even being drafted.
