He showed his ass during the game. He drilled Heyward in the back and Pastor followed up by getting on as well thus Jason was on second. Hinske came into PH and destroyed it but right at the 1B for an easy double play. When walking off the mound NotSoSamardzija starting running his mouth at Heyward. It was totally classless.

I have always hated that douchebag.

Honestly I believe this lineup is more than fine. At this rate, we may need to trade for a pitcher (ha). I just hate the thought of that much (inflated) value walking out the door without maximizing it, especially given our budget constraints. I don't care about the pick because we don't need anymore polished college lefties with no upside that peaked before even being drafted.

The difference in value between the two draft picks you get when a Type A FA walks and the player-and-a-prospect you'd probably get back if you traded him is more than made up for by the difference between Bourn and a 25th (or 26th, since the 25th guy is already in the lineup half the time) guy in what you hope will be a serious playoff run this year. You just can't make a deal like that when you have a chance to win.

I'd consider trading Bourn for a younger guy who can step in and play CF right now, provide at least some offense, and is locked up for two more years. That's it. Is there a contending team that has one of those guys to give away?

There was this guy we traded for, Mark Teixiera. Frank Wren realized "Oh ****, we aren't a contender, we have to do something" in 2008. He panicked and made a trade for Stephen Marek and Casey Kotchman from Anaheim, who did nothing for Atlanta, instead of taking the draft picks. Well funny story. After Mark left the Angels, they got compensation for Mark...two picks actually. In the 2009 MLB draft, they got the 25th pick in the first round from the Yankees and drafted some high school outfielder from New Jersey.

That outfielder?

Mike Trout.

Oh, the Angels also took pitcher Tyler Skaggs, who is one of the fifty best prospects in baseball with the compensation pick.

So, Atlanta lost Mike Trout and Tyler Skaggs for Casey Kotchman.

Y'all are failing, miserably at that, to take the braves draft strategy into account.

MIKE MINOR at 7

SEAN GILMARTIN in the first round

Mikie had no business going 7th overall.. Even I was pissed about that one and I grew up with the guy. Gilmartin, meh. Wasn't too pumped about that one either. The year Heyward and Freeman went one and two now that was beautiful

Low-level, high-upside prospects and draft picks are lottery tickets. Some of them come in, most of them don't, probably all at about the same rate. It doesn't bother me that the Angels hit on that pick that the Braves could have had; it doesn't even really bother me that the Rangers hit the jackpot on both of the lottery tickets that they got from the Braves for Teixeira. The Braves have been had their share of them go their way too (Cf. Arodys Vizcaino -- and imagine what that trade for Nate McLouth would look like if Gorkys Hernandez had developed as expected?)

The thing that's disturbing, of course, is that they apparently though Casey Kotchman was a legitimate 1B.

If you don't trust them to draft anybody then I'm not sure how you trust them to look into another organization's minor leagues and find any value there either.

Especially when they could have had Kendry Morales instead.

Uneventful so far? Right now I'm watching a rerun of "Pick Up My Check And Go Home: The Joe Johnson Story" a few channels up the dial instead.
