Well, no ****. That's why it was a shame he couldn't get lucky on a mistake. You have already stated Chapman's struggles with accuracy.

Heyward started with two strikes because he attempted to swing at a ball that nearly hit him.

I agree. It's a shame Chapman didn't screw up and do something that his manager no doubt directly ordered him not to do.

You mean a big league pitcher can't throw a ball exactly where he wants, everytime? A ball can't be 6 inches further inside than intended?

Baseball is all about players taking advantage of pitcher mistakes. Quit acting like it couldn't happen. As a Braves fan, I want Chipper hitting there over Heyward, 10 times out of 10.

Against Chapman, I want every RHP on the roster hitting over every LHP on the roster 10 out of 10 times too. I would rather have Tyler Pastornicky up there than Brian McCann. Righties at least have a chance.

Missed a little of the game. Is there any good explanation for Fredi doing a double-switch when he brought in Venters -- who's exclusively a one-inning pitcher anyway?

Because Hinske pinch hit in the 9th spot and they needed to leave him in the game due to FF's eye problem.

Relax friend. I always try to stir the pot. I think you are a good poster, don't take my little jabs to heart. I just like creating controversy. Besides, I know the Braves are great offensively, but no way it lasts forever. So there is no of course to it. Smile, be happy Verc. It's fun every now and then

You are, of course, deliberately distorting what I've said. All I've said is that I need to see it play out longer than 30 games before I'll seriously believe that the Braves have made some enormous, league-shattering strides in offense. Meanwhile you're ready to crown them the best Braves offense in a decade based on one road trip.

Sorry if that's not enough of a knee-jerk, rah-rah-go-team reaction for you. I've been watching baseball far too many years to start ripping my shirt off and painting my chest about a hot streak in May.

Also no way I'm crowning ****. They lost two of three to the cubs, and possibly will be swept by Cincy. I honestly think the Braves get in as a wild card team. I've also been following this too long to be jaded into false realism.

Heh. I actually think they've got a great shot to win the division. If Heyward and Freeman can keep it going and Chipper can play enough games to keep Francisco on the bench most of the time, this season could be outstanding.

Gotta win two or three extra games just to make up for Fredi's mistakes though.

Agreed. They very well could win the division. I'm kinda Pessimistic though. Hope they do.

DOB article today about Bourn's contract. Nothing that interesting in there, but it is a little noteworthy that both Bourn and Boras have already said more positive things about Atlanta than Teixeira ever did. I sort of think that in his perfect world, Bourn would like to play here for awhile.

I expect it to play out as follows. Bourn will express interest in staying here. Wren will float the idea of an extension. Boras will say "Hey, Michael is really interested in coming back to Atlanta, but not without hitting free agency first." He'll tell Bourn, "If those guys really want you, they'll sign you on the open market." Bourn will file free agency. Wren will refuse to get in a bidding war. Bourn will sign a long-term deal somewhere else. The Yankees could use him, therefore the money will be tremendous.

Bourn is playing relatively pressure free with the braves this year and I think it's obviously being reflected in his production. I think you are correct that he will float the market and land a massive contract from the Yankees or the like. He will end up underperforming but have his money. Easy decision for him.

It's total speculation, obviously, but it does feel like he and Boras are both sending up pretty overt smoke signals that they want the Braves to be involved. I think he hopes to come back here. It's just impossible to see it happening.

Boras isn't stupid; he knows that the Braves' tendency is going to be to dismiss out of hand the possibility of bringing Bourn back just because he's a Boras client. Thus all the (relatively speaking) mating behavior on their part.

Another thing to keep in mind, re: Boras, is his other clients with the Braves that will be free agents in the near future. He'll want to keep the lines of communication open.
