Atlanta Braves Thread (I HURT MYSELF TODAY TO SEE IF I STILL FEEL)

Overrated argument. Move Kemp to third if you have to. You can't have someone with an OBP of .159 in the 2 hole. It doesn't matter if you are seeing good pitches if you can't hit the damn thing. I don't know Ender, Markadick, Freeman's splits but I'd say that aren't anywhere near as profound as someone like Jace. They hit and get on, that's what we need in front of Freeman. Lineup construction is an inexact science when you got 4 or 5 guys who can actually hit a baseball. I'm making chicken salad here, work with me.

It has been 14 games

I'm on Scotty's side. This is just hurting Freeman. Solo HR's for him all the time ain't going to get it done. Somebody hitting in front of him has to be getting on base. I don't care if it's 14 games or 84 games into the season. Move Swanson down temporarily until he finds his stride. I think that's the right thing to do myself for now. Thanks.

Braves are 6th in batting avg (.258), 11th in OBP (.320), and 9th in slugging (.415). Not to mention hovering around .500 with absolutely idiotic scheduling to start a season.

If anything, argue for the positive, not the negative. Dansby has hit a lot of balls right at people... and to send him to Gwinnett would not be wise. He will only experience and learn MLB pitching one way. This is the first time he has seen a lot of these pitchers. With guys like Freeman, Kemp, Markakis, and Chipper looming around... he has a lot of folks to answer his questions and offer advice.

If ya move him down in the lineup. I think that's fine. Only logical individual to move up would be Markakis because no one else is getting on base consistently on the back end of the lineup -- if that's your goal.

I doubt Sims sticks as a starter but he will be a dynamite bullpen option.

He looks very good today. Not many three ball counts and a lot of first pitch strikes. Works fast, and goes after batters. You make a good point, very much like a reliever mentality in closing out late innings.

I saw a report that he sometimes works too fast and rushes. The nice part is just having so many options. Newk might now work but maybe Sims does. Maybe Touki doesn't make it but Patrick Weigel does.

Jason Motte has looked a lot better than I would have guessed. Braves taking a chance on him, but seems like a reasonable gamble.

Oh, and...

Touki is VERY young so it's unknown at this point. Obviously command is his issue but with such explosive movement it's worth the investment of time in developing him over the next couple of years.

Something I've liked about the new regime is they are focusing on guys with great stuff. In the past it was more about control guys but I'd rather groom a guy with great stuff

Why the **** is Garcia batting 2nd instead of Phillips with Dansby getting the day off?

So glad we traded kimbrel....

Braves paid him just over $10M in his five+ years in Atlanta... he makes $13M just this year in Boston. Braves can't compete with that... he's a free agent in 2019 though and will be 30, so....

I still miss him, tho :(

Well, Touki didn't cost the Braves a lot imho... he was on the backend of the Bronson Arroyo trade for Gosselin. If his stuff continues to improve and he actually learns how to pitch in situations... that's another huge thank you to the dbacks.

Ozzie has been playing 2B every day at Gwinnett but played SS today... he is so much better at SS than 2B and is fun to watch in the field. A year ago I was guessing that the Braves would transition Dansby to 2B but yeah... shrug

Granted, Albies is very tiny and does not fit the modern prototypical SS at all. He's more of a Rafeal Belliard in the field with a much stronger arm.

He sure is pretty snagging fly balls ......makes up for the 0 for 4 with 3 strikeouts.....or that was just his Atlanta days?

I'm still confused as to where Heyward went wrong offensively. It's been said he has a line drive swing, but that doesn't explain the awful average.

He developed into an even better defensive player than people thought, but hasn't even come close to realizing the offensive potential outside of one year.
