That really doesn't matter in the grand scheme of things.

If he doesn't make the tourney next year, barring a sweet sixteen/elite eight run in 2014, he will be fired.

He should be fired this year. This shouldn't count as making the tournament. Especially with the roster he had this year.

So if the committee shockingly put Tennessee as a 7 seed, he shouldn't be fired? That's very faulty reasoning.

I would agree with most reasons for firing CCM. Tournament seeding by a dumb committee isn't one nor should it.

That's fair.

But he's not getting fired this year.

Which is unimaginably frustrating. Once again, they play like the season starts in early February, only this time they go the tiny step further and move from first team out to last team in. To have a roster with Stokes, Maymon, McRae, play in the horrible SEC and still not get a spot in an actual NCAA tournament game is awful, and not deserving of a fourth year. That said, I know we're stuck with him for one more year now.

My own thinking on Martin hasn't wavered from what I said before the beginning of the season. I've always said that I'd want him fired if we weren't comfortably off the bubble at the end of the season. There's no excuse for a team with this roster to be sitting here sweating it yet again on Selection Sunday.

However, the conventional wisdom all year has been that if he made the tournament, he'd come back. That's what I mean by "this shouldn't count." I agree that it's silly to base your decision to keep a coach on an arbitrary committee decision on a borderline team, whether they're in the main field, in Dayton, or out. Being on the bubble again in year 3 with this roster is unacceptable. Obviously he won't be, but he deserves to be be fired regardless of what the committee did today.

Next year is going to be a dumpster fire anyway. It's pointless to give it to a lame duck coach. Get the new guy in and let him be the one to start the rebuild.

I have no clue how cricket works or what exactly is going on in this gif...but I love it.
