Happy St. Patrick's Day, gents.

If any of you guys are following the missing jet story, this guy right here has probably figured it out. Electrical fire knocked out the communications equipment; captain turns directly on a course for the closest airport big enough to land a 777; crew is overcome by smoke; jet flies on its way until it runs out of fuel and crashes in the ocean. Now that Malaysia is backtracking off the "pilots radioed back after switching off transponder," something like this seems like the most likely scenario.

I expected him to have to take a mid-major job first, but given that Auburn is the worst basketball job in a bad conference, this isn't much better. It'll be interesting for sure.

The basketball forum sounds like a bunch of Rastafarians when Haile Selassie died.

I am very surprised he got a power conference job already. I thought it would be a lot like Bobby Petrino. A year or two at a mid major, then hired by a legit team.

But Auburn is a bottom two job in the SEC. He won't be able to recruit like he has. He has the least amount of talent on his roster in the SEC. Can he do well at Auburn? Yes. But I doubt he's going to have a consistent top 25 program.

Auburn is sort of perfect for him, in that it's the most insular, us-against-the-world (I started to say "circle-jerky," but that would have been uncharitable) fanbase in the conference except for maybe A&M. His schtick will play really well with the Auburn Family.

And Alabama fans are mad as hell that they're stuck with Grant and Auburn got Pearl. Another plus for Auburn.

I'd be shocked if he didn't win there. He won everywhere else.

That said...

It's finally ****ing over!!! He's finally somewhere else!!!

The opinion that everyone has that Tennessee's basketball program is now gonna disappear into the abyss is just dumb. It's probably not likely but who's to say UT can't hire a coach around Bruce's level.

We can hire somebody better than Pearl, but the problem is it's not going to be this year. Since we've technically made the tournament this year (although not really, yet) it looks like we're stuck with Cuonzo for at least another year.

I'd like to see a list of college basketball coaches that are better than Bruce Pearl and I'd really like to know who on that list tennessee has a snowballs chance in hell of ever snagging.

I'm no pearlophile and I fully understand why he isn't the coach here, but the people who downplay how successful he was/is are worse than the "GIVE ME PEARL OR GIVE ME DEATH" crowd.

I made it perfectly clear in here how I feel about Pearl and how I wanted no part of him ever coming back to UT. I say all that to acknowledge that my opinion will be biased, and I'm aware of that, but I tend to think that what we saw from Pearl was about the best we were ever going to see from him. Furthermore, if there wasn't ever a BBQ to have a picture taken at and he was still roaming the sidelines here, that the bloom would be coming off the Pearl rose here as the coach at Tennessee.

1. Even if true, that best was the best this program has ever been.

2. I don't think there's much evidence to that, and I would definitely take the track record of 6 consecutive trips to the tourney over the last three "meh" seasons, a lame duck HC, and ****storm brewing for 2014-2015.

So how long before CCM leaves of his own volition? I'd be PISSED to have to deal with this right now if I was him.
