This is by far the best baseball game I played growing up. Earl Weaver Baseball on the Amiga. I would guess this is about 1985. Obviously it looks horrible graphically now, but this was a great game. Full historical rosters; you could get current teams; results based on some of the early advanced metrics that the sabermetrics guys were doing.

Game setup starts about 1:00; actual gameplay at about 2:50.

Everton really really need to sneak into that 4th spot so they can get some of that CL money and start figuring out a way to keep Barkley long term. It's going to suck if they have to sell him in a couple years.

If they aren't able to get all the way up into 4th, which is an extremely long shot at this point, they'd be better off finishing 6th or lower. Finishing 5th and qualifying for Europa does virtually nothing for them and only seems to serve as additional hurdle to CL qualification the following season for most teams.

They just signed him to a new deal sometime this season, but your point stands. If he continues on his current career trajectory he'll either want Everton to pay him or sell him so someone else can. Having to sell an elite talent isn't always the worst thing, even though it sucks for the fans. Spurs got an exorbitant sum of money for selling the world class Gareth Bale and used the money from the sale to create what is probably a stronger team in the long run.

6th will also get them into EL if Arsenal win the FA Cup. If they choke, then the second spot from England will go to whichever of the upstart teams do win it. I kind of agree though. EL has little financial reward and usually comes with several Thursday nights in Eastern Europe that as you mentioned normally hurts a club's league campaign that year.

True, 6th could get them there too depending on how the FA Cup goes.

IMO Everton's top priority in the next transfer window needs to be to secure a striker that they actually own. You can't constantly rely on guys out on loan to bear the burden for all your scoring. If they don't try to buy Lukaku (which looks increasingly unlikely) it sounds like the next guy on their list is Wilfried Bony from Swansea.

Quite the opposite. I just don't know if Everton can afford him because several teams with more money at their disposal seem to be interested.

And, just like every player who is on the radar of some big clubs, I'm pretty sure he has come out and said point blank that he wants to be playing CL next season.
