AU-Freeze, will it happen?

If this is true, why would Ole Miss let him coach another snap, especially in the Egg Bowl? Even if he wins and then turns around and leaves, Ole Miss loses. Letting him coach after they know he's leaving is unthinkable.

I'm betting this whole thing is a Jimmy Sexton planted "leak" to get Kiffin even more money at Oxford.

Well Ole Miss and Miss State are in awkward spots. Their only appeal is paying more money since state law is the max contracts can go are 4 years. Even with a 1/3 raise, Kiffin is making $10m per year at Ole Freaking Miss. All while a year gets added to contract each year. Cushy job.

I cannot imagine a contract that doesn't allow for termination of a coach when they've agreed to leave for another team. What could look weaker for Ole Miss than being forced to let Kiffin continue to coach even though he's ditching them?

Imagine if Heupel was already known to be going to Auburn, would we want him to continue to coach another down at TN? No way.

Can Ole Miss prove that Kiffin has agreed/signed contract with another school? Can Auburn?

There's no proof he's agreed to leave, other than one reporter's word. If Kiffin publicly denies it, I don't know what else Ole Miss could do legally. And even if he has agreed, I'm pretty sure at this stage of the game his agents and lawyers have an airtight way of him accepting the job without actually accepting the job.

Unless Kiffin, his agent, or his lawyers did something incredibly stupid, Ole Miss has no legal case to just let him go.

That there's no proof and that he's still coaching for Ole Miss is exactly why I think it's a Jimmy Sexton sourced planted story to put the squeeze on Ole Miss for a bigger bump.

Kiffin has the ethics of a crocodile and Sexton makes Kiffin look like an angel.

Starkville and Oxford are only 75 miles apart.
Or 100 but the point stands. Him breaking news about Cohen in his “hometown” isn’t the same as being dialed into what’s happening in Oxford. He talks out of both sides of his mouth in the tweet. “Sources say he’s stepping down. Sources say the job hasn’t been offered to anyone yet”. WTF?

If I were Kiffin, I'd hang around at Ole Miss till Saban retires and take the Bama job.

I wouldn't touch the Auburn job with a 10 feet long pole.

Alabama and the powers that be are not going to just hand the program that Nick Saban built over to Lane Kiffin. They will chase the names that you mentioned, but they will look at people like Chris Peterson and Urban Meyer, they will look to the NFL to see if guys like Pete Carrol have any tread and fire left. You have to remember that they feel like they can have anyone in the profession that they desire, and he will be far from third on their wishlist. Would it ultimately come down to Kiffin getting an offer? Perhaps, but only if they struck out with 10 other people after an exhausting six week search. It certainly wouldn’t be the ten day drunken frolic behind the dumpster that Auburn and Kiffin have just consummated if the report is true. I think he’s a fool to wait on Alabama if he truly does want an upgrade.

Lol. Let's be realistic here when throwing around names.

I hate Bama, but they're not stupid. They saw very well the debacle Auburn got into by bringing in a coach with absolutely 0 SEC tied. Peterson is a way way better coach than Harsin, but he's a creature of the Northwest. If for some reason he came out of retirement and wanted to work on the Southeast, at this point he would have to go to a smaller school and "prove it" first

Nobody is hiring Urban Meyer. The shine is off that turd blossom

Pete Carroll is roughly the same age as Saban.

Urban Meyer flamed out very publicly at the Jags with a lot of self induced problems.
Chris Petersen is not walking back into the game of coaching
Pete Carroll is the same age as Saban. What years are you getting from him that you aren't getting from Saban

All 3 of those guys would be no where near the top of the list... And on top of it, Saban will get to name his successor if he wants to. If he says hire this guy, they will likely do it.

Believe it'll be Hugh Freeze when they do hire someone. As for Kiffin, he needs to head back west either to Arizona (if it comes open) or Arizona State. Not much investment in Ole Miss in regards to football and he'll have an easier path in the Pac 12 to win.

Lol. Arizona and ASU would be such a drop off….. he can make 10 million a year at ole miss and just needs to win 8-10 games per year to keep fans happy. Is Arizona gonna pay that per year? Lol

If he only wants money, sure. If he wants to have a chance to win without having to go through the SECW and be closer to his kids its not a bad move. Winning provides money.

Kiffin isn't going to an Arizona or Arizona St. from Ole Miss unless he got fired from Ole Miss for performance. Those jobs are a step down.

All are good points, although I disagree that Myer is done. Somebody will call him sooner or later. I was just saying that they will aim big. They won’t just get turned down by Dabo and Kirby, and just call welp Kiffin it is. There are 100 better coaches in this country, and they’ll look at them.

Might be, but he's not winning at Ole Miss anytime soon. Which will add two more brands in the coming years. He can use this move for leverage or he can get out before the SEC becomes a super conference with Ole Miss being a tier two or three.

Oh I'm not saying Kiffin is the first backup option.

But I think Bama can do plenty worse after their top tier guys falls through. Like are they going to go up and comer route post Saban? Prolly not.

But outside of Kirby and Dabo, who are the clear cut top tier nationally coaches they can go after? Riley is scared of the SEC, Kelly is at LSU, Ryan Day and Harbaugh aren't leaving.... Kiffin is likke a few no answers to being the best candidate that Saban would sign off on .

Pretty sure his daughter goes to Ole Miss.

They're already there.
