Auburn did it, why not Tennessee?

First of all I don't want to do anything Auburn or Alabama does. I just want our boys to play hard and knock some asses into the dirt. That being said. No we will not win a ton of games this year. But we will be more competitive. Could we surprise and win more than expected. Yes. Anything is possible.

Considering that they have won the BCS Championship 4 out of the last 5 years between them, I think I would be ok doing what they do.

I heard a recruiting expert on the radio talking about how Auburn and Alabama are the two schools in the SEC who do the most negative recruiting toward other SEC schools. He also said that UT, UGA and UF were the three schools that do the least negative recruiting.

Maybe things are a lot more intense in the SECw these days.

Among other reasons that no one will admit (and I like butch jones), Gus Malzahn is special.

Agree that Gus is special. He would've won more than 5 gms with Butch's UT team last year IMO. That being sincerely said, last year's Auburn team was loaded with athletes and only 2 years removed from a national title. UT was severely lacking in athletes and 9 months removed from Derek Dooley.

Auburn had 5 straight years of top 10 recruiting classes. That team was always good when Gus had the keys.

We aren't even in the same hemisphere in terms of overall talent and depth. When I think about Marshall being a converted DB or w/e I don't think about it from the standpoint of "geez, they are so thin they have to play a db at QB", I think "Their o-line and offensive scheme is so good they can play a DB at QB and win the SEC"

We are a lot closer in talent then you think, I'd say even more talent on offense besides QB. If we good qb play we can have an outstanding year. Read up on both rosters and look at the defensive stats from last year. Lol at " different hemisphere "

Plus we have major qb issues. Auburn qb miles better than rocket boy n worley last yr.

And every year lately our motto has been the coach just needs more time to get his players.. Lol heck I suppose its never the coach but always the players..

You would never understand.

We don't have the depth that Auburn had. Plus Malzahn played a role in recruiting the roster. He walked back into a familiar setup. We're thin in terms of lineman on both sides of the ball. One injury could be devastating. I think we will a lower bowl game and finish 7-6. We're getting the talent it, but Rome wasn't built in a day.

We're not going to be Auburn 2.0 so let's quit making the comparison. We're going to be a young, but very talented TENNESSEE, who potentially could lose more games than at any point in the program's history, but most likely will surprise some people and win 6-8 games, bowl win included if we go 7-5 and win our bowl. It's probably going to be a nail biter of a year, but I like where we're headed.

If you read the OP, that's exactly what it says. Why couldn't we win 7 or 8. I followed up with on a scale of 1-10 what are the chances of winning 7?

Tennessee should take an approach that has never been tried on rebuilding a program. Change the head coach every year until one wins a championship... might be the quickest approach

That would be fantastic for recruiting.

My sentiments exactly!

Exactly. Auburn was no better then bama, UGA, LSU.

Florida went 4-8 last year.

I'll be happy to compare how well florida plays against bama, georgia and lsu this year to how well auburn played against those same teams last year.

if you take luck out of the equation.....auburn loses two games and goes to overtime with alabama. considering what they looked like in 2012, it was a damn miracle.

imo, the amount of coaches who could have engineered that kind of turn around, luck or no luck, can be counted on one hand.

This guy again. Speaking of different hemisphere, you must live on another planet to believe the drivel you spit.

total points scored.

2012-224
2013-553

total offense....yards per game

2012- 305
2013- 501

rushing yards per game

2012- 148
2013- 328

basically, imagine if the tennessee defense last season looked like the 85 bears. that's the kind of turnaround auburn had.

Apparently I just know more about Auburn and UT then you. The difference with Auburn was the coach, the QB and the system. Not an overwhelming amount of talent.

Here's something to think about and express your views on. Auburn went from a 3-9 record in 2012 to a 12-2 record and a runner-up finish to the national champions last year. Now I am in no way suggesting that will happen for us, nowhere close. However, we saw how good the offense was in the spring. We really don't know how good the defense will be until the 16 new defensive players are added to the mix but I think we can assume they will be much better also. Now you see all the predictions where the Vols will only win 5 or 6 games. Why is it a stretch to believe that if Butch gets all the pieces in place we could surprise a lot of people and win 7 or 8 games? :crossfingers:

Anything can happen man. I try to be an optimist. I really do. But until I see us on the field on August 31st, I can't say that we're going to have a higher ceiling than 6 or 7 wins. Now, that may change, but not at this time.

It can't happen to us because ESPN pays the refs to screw us!

Please see the LSU and NC games, and the resulting RULES CHANGES as proof! :gun:

It was all the above IMO. Better coach, better QB, unique offensive system (their defense statistically speaking was similar to ours in sec play)..... and a helluva lot more elite athletes. That wasn't the coach, system or QB trying to tackle the Auburn guys on defense and special teams.

Haven't you figured it out by now?

It's goin take 4 top 5 recruiting classes and a minimum of 5 years to get back to a 7 win season.
