Auburn Moving To The East?

Don't switch anyone and bring in some east coast teams.

West Virginia, Virginia Tech, UNC, two of those three would be perfect

They're in eastern states we don't have. All 3 have programs that could be competitive. UNC is a sleeping giant. Raleigh is the fastest growing city in the nation. They'd all be good fits.

I like this idea. Why? As a season ticket holder, in the upcoming season, I have tickets to:

UT vs. The Indiana State Sycamores
UT vs. The University of Massachusetts Minutemen
UT vs. The Southern Mississippi Golden Eagles

I drive up from Huntsville Al, roughly 220 miles or so for each game.

To be honest, I'd rather stay home.

After we moved to Athens, AL last fall, in the middle of the season, we gave up the OOC games and the Mizzou game. The drive is just too far and too much money to watch us play TTU. We didn't renew our season tickets this year. Come the the first home game when I'm on the couch I'll probably regret it.

As far as historical competition, of the 5 SEC teams with the worst overall records, 4 are in the East.

I'm open to suggestions that create better competitive balance.

Hint: what we have right now makes the most sense.

Why do you think Ole Miss and Mississippi State are in the other?

There is historical, competitive balance currently.

If you want to change the divisions based on what has happened in the last several years, then I can only assume you are a woman.

lol

v011s is such a woman.

It's better in every way.

The only problem is it ends the Alabama-Tennessee rivalry.

How? If they switch with Mizzou then they would assume Mizzou's schedule and vise versa. Mizzou plays Bama on a rotational basis. That's why it will NEVER happen because they aren't giving up their rivalry with Bama to move to the East.

If it were to happen, Auburn would become Bama's cross-division rival, and UT would get Mizzou. I'm not saying I like that, but it's reality. The Iron Bowl isn't going away.

SEC Network should televise a game of musician chairs with the 6 SEC west teams sans Alabama. Last one standing gets to pay Mizzou $10 million for their spot in SEC East.

Historically, Ole Miss actually falls more around the level of Missouri than Vanderbilt or Kentucky.

Miss St really falls more along the area of South Carolina (post-Spurrier surge) than Vanderbilt...Kentucky's closer to it than Vanderbilt, but they're still quite a bit of a gap down from the Bulldogs.

Hubbs said on Sportstalk that he didn't see this happening but he also didn't think that Missouri would be a long term member..said that they don't fit like A&M does...Id like to see Georgia Tech or a NC school replace them.

I doubt either of those would happen, though.

The only way to do it. I'm down for that.

Then teams would only play one of the other non-division SEC teams each season. That pretty much still wouldn't fix the schedule matchup rotation issues presented by the current 8-game format.

For example, let's suppose we're talking UT paired with Alabama and let's say Missouri (since we're saying Missouri and Auburn swapped). It take 10 years for UT to make it through the other home and homes...the fan base would only get to make trips to places like Starksville, Oxford, College Station, Baton Rouge, and Fayetteville once an entire decade. Not to mention the fact that UT would likely only see these teams maybe one time in 5 years.

Mizzou for sure. aTm actually fits in nicely with the SEC and brings in the Texas markets. Mizzou... nothing really.

Except for the money all the conference teams are getting from the St Louis and Kansas City markets in a state with around the same population as TN.

Well that or Arkansas would be paired again with UT, a la 1992-2002.

The cross-divisional setup for Missouri, Georgia, Tennessee, and Arkansas would all have to be accounted for were Auburn moved to the East and the Iron Bowl maintained.
