Auriemma is SUCH a DOUCHE!!!!

I don't understand what your question or point is please elaborate.

They're both in the WNBA and the article pointed out that they were both involved. How can you trace that to Geno if they aren't even associated with the university?

I think most people here are willing to accept that the cheating is not what necessarily ended the series, but rather the straw that broke the camels back. There is a long, storied, body of work that Geno put in to finally make Pat made enough to send him packing.

And the most storied rivalry and only thing that gets headlines in any women's sport

The only thing getting headlines from that series is the fact that Geno and Pat don't like each other.

How many teams cancelled games on days when Gaylord Perry pitched because he had been allegedly doctoring baseballs?

Are speaking of Turasi and Bird having a meeting of sorts with this recruit?

If the same thing happens again you are kidding yourself if you think the penalty would be a simple slap on the wrist. The NCAA doesn't take to well to people spitting in their face.

You have to be kidding yourself if you don't think that any major university doesn't push it to the limit in recruiting. It won't happen again, this is the least severe punishment that you can get. The NCAA has just frowned upon what they did and UConn has said they wouldn't do it again. End of story. The problem is that Pat and the media bring it up every possible moment.

But neither you nor I know what has or hasn't been done. If making a comparison you have to compare two things that are alike. Boxing and basketball don't even go in the same sentence.

There is nothing he could have done that could have been more dangerous or more threatening to the sanctity of a sport than blinding a fighter.

Did Geno threaten to shank Candace? If that is the case, then the NCAA needs to step aside and let law enforcement step in.

Outside of physical safety, there is no reason to cancel this series other than for Pat to stroke her ego, maybe.

No that's where you are wrong. When asked about it Pat said " Go ask Geno".

Agree! You are proving my point! Apples and oranges.

I know, if I had a dollar for everytime I heard her say "Geno knows" then I'd be rich. If she's got such a big scoop on whatever's happened that's really bad then why don't she tell, or instead, just drop the subject altogether

It is called proportionality. I was giving you an extreme case in a more extreme sport to illustrate how petty Pat is acting when you compare it to the type of cheating and name calling that goes on in boxing. Very petty...

No, the point is, there are a million other cases in sports where there would have been justification to cancel a series like this... and they didn't happen. You're ready to support Pat for cancelling these games just because of a little he said/she said crap and some petty cheating charges/accusations.

I understand the reason for her decisions. But that is just me. Series are canceled all the time for petty reasons. The media has kept this going. Not Pat or Geno for that matter. Pat Summit is held in high regard in womens coaching circles for being an honest, gracious peer who is respected for her accomplishments coaching basketball. Many in the same group of peers only respect Geno for his accomplishments in coaching, they cannot say the same for character, or graciousness. Now, if you take the names away and compare them as individuals, who would you be more likely to believe?

Probably Pat. I don't understand what being honest or dishonest has to do with cancelling a game, though.

And your claim about series being cancelled all the time for petty reasons is no excuse. 2 rights don't make a wrong. UCONN has been at the top of the women's game along with Tennessee for over 10-12 years. No excuse/reason for cancelling that series. Not honesty/dishonesty, not cheating, not rumor spreading, not anything outside of physical harm is a good enough reason to cancel that game.

I am just stating that because of her rep I am willing to believe that there is reason enough for her to do what she did. As I said before I have heard reason enough for me to understand her stance.

I think you guys are too hung up on whether or not actual major violations have been committed when what really annoys Summitt is the fact that Geno has consistently demonstrated he will exploit whatever circumstance he can to gain an advantage in recruiting. Whether that is putting a 17 year old high school senior to be on the USA National team (Ann Strother) and giving her more minutes than some veteran WNBA All-Stars in order to circumvent dead contact periods or having his former players conveniently show up at the games of players he is recruiting. He doesn't so much break rules as he exploits loopholes in them and then smugly acts like a precocious teen who just outsmarted the teacher when he is done. Now, would any of this bother Summitt if UConn wasn't such a threat? No, but I think she sees cancelling the series as a way to send a message to UConn as well as the NCAA that she disapproves of their methods and this is the only recourse she has while the NCAA is unable to anything. I also think there is a firmly held belief at Tennessee that the series developing into such a heated rivalry benefitted UConn more than it did UT. Tennessee was already getting ample national exposure on both CBS and ESPN in the mid '90's while UConn, though already a contender was having major difficulty getting any of it's games televised and this series immediately made them a peer and even an equal of Tennessee's (especially after they beat TN in '95) and that was invaluable to UConn's growth in popularity at the time....In other words, I think UT regrets helping UConn by playing this series to begin with. Tennessee would be just as good without it, I don't think you can say the same about UConn over the last ten years.

Very well put. the issues you mentioned are some of the reasons that were given to me. There are a few others that are not well known that I'm told are reasons for the decision.

And I'm just stating that if law enforcement isn't involved or someone's life and limbs aren't in jeopardy, there is no reason in the world to cancel this series. I don't care what he calls her or what he says about the players or what cheating he may have been accused of, there are far more instances where people had more of a reason to cancel a game/series than what I've seen you insinuate so far in this thread.

Still a weak excuse to cancel the series.

That is your opinion. Everyone has one.:eek:k:
