Australian Open

great match, another 4 1/2 hours of court time for Nadal, but he now has his first Aussie title and pretty much cemented his spot as the number one player. I think Roger wins his 14th either at Wimbledon or the US. Don't think he'll win both though.

Shocked by Federer's serve. It was ghastly. First time I recall it completely abandoning him for an entire match. He serves at 60%, that thing's over in 4 max.

the fact that he couldn't play consistently enough with his backhand didn't help him any. Nadal showed absolutely no signs of fatigue from the other match and could have lasted 3 more sets. That was unbelievable.

Didn't Federer have like 6 double faults? (i missed the most of the first two sets)

Yes 6. And couldn't get in a first serve. Dent trust the second enough to serve the forehand. He knew it and Nadal knew it.

Nadal surprised me once again. He's some kind of athlete. Too bad he didn't get the best Fed has to offer in all aspects.

I woke up to watch a few games of the second set, I cant believe it went five sets. I have to wonder if Federer will ever beat Nadal again. Nadal will def be the favorite in the French in May. If i'm not mistaken he didn't drop a set in the Australian until he met Verdasco, who gave Nadal a game. Congratulations to Nadal, I like this kid.

What the hell was up with Federer crying like a little girl after losing? I'm not sure that I've ever seen any non-elementary school athlete boo-hoo quite so much in defeat before. As I believe that I predicted last year, the Federer Era is pretty clearly over, and I guess he's finally figured that out -- but still, there's no excuse for breaking down into endless crocodile tears like that. Be a man.

yeah, I agree. There's nothing worse than someone being so passionate about something they love.

I guess The US Open didn't happen.

Passion's one thing, but Federer blubbered on and on and on and on and on -- I would say like my four year old, but he hasn't cried that long about anything in a couple of years. Enough is enough.

And as for the US Open -- Federer didn't beat Nadal in New York, did he? Nadal's now beaten Federer three times in a row, on all three surfaces. Nadal's the one who should have been exhausted from having the shorter rest and the five-set semifinal, yet he outlasted Federer and ground him down in the fifth set. This is Nadal's sport now; Federer is going to be pretty much left playing for whatever scraps Nadal leaves around when he screws up. Like this year's US Open.

I should add that I like Federer, and have always rooted for him to beat Nadal -- but it's just become pretty clear that his run at the top is over. He's going to turn 28 this year, and most of tennis's great players have been pretty close to done by that age. I'd expect him to win another Grand Slam or two, sort of like Sampras winning that last US Open several years after his peak was obviously over, but his best work is clearly behind him now.
