Australian Open

and ps. I'm about to fall over after staying up so late and watching the matches so often lately. If anyone wants to keep a rundown going so I can catch up tomorrow, I'd appreciate it. The sportscenter aussie open coverage has been awful imo.

Well, if you played on July 12, 1953 you experienced 112 degree heat. Otherwise, you were nowhere near close to what Novak went through the other day. You play in weather that extreme and pushing yourself to the limit is likely to result in death.

:eek:lol: Yep. July 12, 1953. I can remember it like it was yesterday. In all seriousness though, Brunswick GA in the middle of August can bring the heat index over 120. I'm being completely honest, I've been in some pretty brutal heat. I don't know how else to put it. Maybe not 142 degrees, but the only reason that it was so hot was the arena they were playing in.

wow, Serena was down 5-3 in the 2nd, and came back to win the last 10 of 11 games. talk about imposing your will.

the ESPN coverage is killing me. now that i don't have all the bonus channels, i'm ready to beat my head in with a tennis racket.

It seems like she has come from behind in several matches to win, not sure of the stats. You can never count her out when she is down.

Australia is 16 hours ahead of us, I'm gonna say it will be Thurday match in Australia, probably the last match of the night. I would venture to say tonight around midnight our time it will start.

So what your saying is that Novak was playing in real time temps 10-25 degrees hotter than your heat index?

My God. I've been in that kind of heat before, just not in an arena like that where the court intensifies it. At this point, I'm wondering what we're even arguing about anymore... Anyways, I'm over it. Roddick plays his heart out tonight, but I just don't think he's got enough to take out Federer.

Those aren't real time temps btw. The "ON COURT" temp was 140. People don't walk around in 140 degree heat down there on a daily basis. Guarantee you walk outside that stadium and it's not 140 flipping degrees.

It most certainly was a real time temp on the court. There is no telling what the on court heat index was

It was, but the fish bowl stadium increaseed the heat dramatically.

I woke up this morning and turned on the Roddick match and heard Roddick drop the f bomb. I really wanted him to win. Do you think this guy will ever win another Grand Slam?

obviously Rod Laver Arena had a lot to do with the temp, but it was the real time temp. FWIW, I did hear that the temps outside were 100+.

Roddick looked improved from last year and I will be interested to see how he looks in Flushing this summer. If he doesn't make the Final or at least the semis there, he's done forever. Personally, I think he already is done.

He doesn't have the game for the top of leaderboard. My opinion, he never really did...

He won a Grand Slam, was ranked #1 at one time and has 3 runner ups in the Majors. Not to mention all his Davis Cup success. I'm going to have to disagree. His baseline game was second to nobody just three years ago. His serve was and still is one of the most formidable in the game.

'03 and being 'the next American' have bought him a lot more love than he deserved.

I'm not against a clearly very talented Roddick. But I never beieved he was the next big thing.

Too slow, weak ground strokes, inconsistency, etc. He has quite a few flaws in his game.

I think the real reason he's gotten so much love is that killer serve of his. A lot of Americans don't know much about tennis, but 99% of them know Andy Roddick and his huge serve.
