I'm having trouble, but i think this is sarcasm? At least i hope it is.

I think it was a good hire. He's a former NBA COY, won the Western Conference one year, has good connections with AAU coaches in Texas. People's knock on him is that he's been out of coaching for 2 years but they're probably the same ones who wanted Pearl back, he was out for 5 years.

Pearl was out 3 years, not 5. Pearl also had established himself as a successful college coach, and Avery has never coached in any capacity on the college level. That's a bigger knock that being out of coaching for over 2 years. And yeah he was COY....almost 10 years ago. He last had a winning season in 2008, and his most recent coaching job with the Nets was a disaster.

No, it's that once he got away from Dallas, a solid and well-run NBA franchise, he was 60-116. Additionally, he's been out of coaching for 2 years and his name has evidently not been on anybody's radar for any job since. We'll see.

Btw, Pearl had a 3 year showcause and was therefore only out 3 years, not 5.

I think a better comparison for Avery is he's the Jon Gruden of basketball.
