If he is planning to be a 2-sport athlete (which almost never happens anymore), I would actually say it’s likely he chooses Georgia over us and not even because of football. Georgia will be able to offer him a much clearer path to playing time in baseball if Deuce wants it. Tony V is stacking talent in Knoxville, so he would have a few more hurdles to clear here than at that **** program in Georgia.
If he's looking at the possibility of being drafted in MLB right out of high school, I'd say he has the talent to earn playing time here.

Has any athalete ever won a National Championship in two different team sports in the same season? Wouldn’t that be an awesome thing to aim for at Tennessee?

Yes sir. LSU won the baseball title after one of their Nattys in football and two football players were on the baseball team. I think it was after they won the 07 Football championship.

Edit….Two of their players won both football and basketball titles but it was 2 years apart. My mistake.

I didn’t say he couldn’t earn playing time here. I just said that his path to a full-time starting job would be fairly easy at Georgia. Who knows what he’ll do.

Duce Robinson, 2023 Tight end - Rivals.com

Tennessee quarterbacks coach Joey Halzle traveled Thursday to Arizona. One of his stops there was Pinnacle High School in Phoenix, the home of five-star Class of 2023 tight end Duce Robinson.

I think it would require a ton of NIL $ and we would likely get outbid by Georgia so ... somewhat moot. MLB might capture him if he is a talented bb player. We could hope for that to happen vs. committing to Ga.

I’m not convinced they have more to throw around than we do. I doubt it

If NIL is the big factor, I wouldn't rule USC out yet. He may be waiting as late as possible to see who (or which sport) makes the best offer.

You can say that again!
No really, say it again because I get much satisfaction from calling Georgia a 💩 program.

One major league team is all it takes to put an offer out there he cannot refuse. If we get past that point and college is his chosen route, is he truly open to both sports or does he have a solid preference? Glad we don't seem to be fighting his Dad's FSU and Mom's Gator backgrounds as a key factor. If he believes he needs the college experience to get it right, is there a coaching tandem that he trusts to work together more than the others with hats on the table?

If football is the driver could we move to the head of the class due to the Nico experience and Coaches new long-term deal for a double rock star offering? Does our BB program with a trending program and coach help too. Love to come from off the board and win this guy's heart, but unless I see some trending data with him I am not going all in on our chances to pass those he has had serious relationships with throughout the process. THAT is before we throw in the whole NIL variable.

Will all these moving parts keep this recruitment open for a while? Too many questions, not enough answers. Ain't recruiting fun?

Well, if nothing else maybe our late entry into his recruitment will force them to drop some big bucks on this guy and create some issues in their TE room.

I am curious why you think Georgia would outbid us if we really wanted someone enough.

First Georgia has been leading in his recruitment for a while. As a casual observer it appears that the schools (not schools) groups with the most liquid NIL funds seem to be
Miami, the two Texas schools, Georgia and Alabama. I would put us perhaps in the next tier -- 7 to 12 ish. I am sure Southern Cal, Notre Dame and Ohio State and others are up there.

We lost a 5 star wr this year to Ohio State partially or largely because our NIL wasn't as competitive or as complete a package as the one offered by Ohio State.

I also realize decisions are not 100 percent driven by NIL money, and we wanted and successfully recruited NICO so there is that, but we don't have a war chest to compete with every school every time.
It was also reported that Georgia was bidding big money to lure NC's starting qb into the portal - so there are a lot of moving pieces these days.
