"Josh brings a very high ceiling," he said. "There might be receivers that were recruited that were ranked higher and whatever, but you go out and you watch him, and you're like, 'I don't know how much better he can get.' He's a good player now. Where I think Josh was a good player, but his ceiling is very, very high. Now I've just got to go coach him.
Josh Smith really is a solid player. He just had a LOT of drops.

Im pretty sure he was talking about Josh Malone in that excerpt...

As far as Josh Smith, he is a tough guy who gives his all for Tennessee. For that, I salute him. With that being said, I hope he is more of a practice squad guy next season. He dropped a lot of balls last season in important situations. Granted he was a freshman, consistently dropping passes is not something we should denote as a characteristic of a "solid" WR.

The infamous debate every off season, who will be the QB this season? Worley keeps his head in the game and improve his decision making,he should be the starter no doubt.

Metrics -

Yards after catch
TDs
Potential interceptions broken up
Total receiving yardage
Blocking downfield

I'm excited about these guys as anyone else, but it all boils down to these "tangibles" on the field - and they are all coachable.

I'm confident our coaches will get the most out of them (assuming the QB can get them the ball).

I really like Worley, really like him and think he is a better QB than most of us realize. But I'm a Dobb Goblin believer.

Um. . .First, it's DOBBS.

Second, as for the nickname

Smith not only drops the ball but he destroys the play because he has great ability to get open - thus naturally more often becoming the QB's target, only to drop if.

Now we just need a QB...

How many years of eligibilty does Von have?

UT has 4 and at least 3 of them have more than sufficient talent to be very good SEC QB's if the WR's hold up their end of the deal. Rarely did the WR's do that in '13 so it is completely unfair to judge any that played based on '13.

It's funny how we went from an overall inexperienced cupboard of WR's with not much depth to completely stacked this year. North, Malone, Pearson, Croom, Howard, Wharton, Young, Johnson, Smith and so on. And hopefully Jenkins will be 100% come fall as well.

I'm not as confident. They didn't in '13 and specifically Azzanni.

The only receiver I felt should've done better was J Smith. He didnt seem to have any problems getting separation from db's, but for whatever reason he couldn't hang on to the ball.

Butch says:
Josh, I'll tell you right now, has the best hands on our football team.

That kid must be a completely different animal in practice situations because he certainly doesn't have the best hands in a real game.

Yeah I remember him saying that. The only thing I can figure it might be is his nerves. Its gotta be if you go from supposedly having the best hands on the team to dropping every other pass thrown your way on gameday.

Freshman real game jitters stuff. It was said at one time last year he had the best hands in practice. IF he gets over the 'I'm frickin wide open an got 2 steps on thuh DB an I'm gonna catch a touchd .... oops" stuff, he's gonna be a goodun!
