Azzanni wants 4

Not many are mentioning Jacob Carter in the rotation. Is this because he doesn't fit CBJ's style of offense as well?
He had a few big catches last year and finished 2nd in receptions after the big 3, so I just found it curious.

I've always been a fan of Carter. He actually has some game experience and played really well when he did get in last year.

Nothing against Croom but IMO, I do not think he will be an everydown WR, I see him more of a third down WR or a Goal Line Receiver. He is big and strong and can out muscle for the hard cathes. But in this uptempo offense, the speed may be a problem. So, I would think you will see Pig, North, and Jenkins with a rotation at 4th based on situation.

Croom actually has good speed, especially for his size. He is a redzone threat but much, much more than that.

From what I've seen so far, Johnathan Johnson looks more consistent than most of the other WR's. Him being 5'9" 179 might hurt some but I would put him in the second tier at least. Anybody know his 40 time?

I agree with the speed however, with his size I would question the endurance. Overall, I believe he will be utilized well, but I think a lot of the receivers will contribute with the uptmepo office.

Dallas should be higher, if not in that first group.

I think I saw where he is having drop issues. Unless he can improve that, his PT comes down to a cost/benefit comparison of his blocking ability vs the drops against what the other guys can do blocking.

He's a very good run blocking WR.

I agree with the OP. Croom, Howard, & North are the likely starters. Azanni says he wants 9 receivers for his rotation.

1. North
2. Croom
3. Howard
4. Young
5. Dallas
6. Blanc
7. Open
8. Open
9. Open

I also think much of the post practice media chatter is about motivation for the younger guys and not just at WR. We have almost zero depth beyond the starters on both sides of the ball. We need the young guys to step it up big time otherwise we're gassed in the second half and especially the 4th quarter. The preseason depth chart, reps with the ones, and all the attaboys for the young guys is all about building depth. JMO.

UT has depth on both lines. Otherwise solid.

He is a guy who does just about everything correctly but lacks the talent to earn a spot. His recent interview almost sounded like they were using him as a player-coach.

"I am going to get the best four guys out there to give us a chance to win. I am going to develop that as we practice and find out who the playmakers are. And the playmakers are going to go play and I will teach them the position.” CZA

Coach'em up

I think Ainge said this morning that Azzani is the best position coach he's ever seen.

Bowles is very underrated. I has quietly had a good spring.... He may jump in the mix quicker that most think.

Drops too many passes. Plagued him during the spring and from what I have seen and gleaned here it has not improved enough this fall. Someone even suggested he could see a position change.

Top 4-
1.Croom
2.North
3.Howard/Smith (Toss up)
4.Jenkins/Young (Toss up)

I believe Dallas will back up North and one of Bowles or Harris will back up Croom. I've been really impressed with Johnson after watching some of the highlights of practice, so for all I know he could end up starting. However, the transition from JUCO to the SEC will be tough (Not everyone can pull a CP). Also, from what I've seen, Bowles seems to have some of the better hands on the team and runs crisp routes. But, he tends to play a little weak for his size and goes down easy. As for North, he's an athletic freak, but definitely needs to work on his catching.

Howard has had issues catching the ball consistently, but he runs good routes and is good with the ball in his hands.

I wouldn't be surprised if Johnson or Jenkins take command of the slot position before the SEC season starts if Howard can't catch the ball more consistent.

The outside receiver situation is very fluid right now. It seems like the only guy without a legitimate shot of getting into the rotation is Bowles.

North
Croom
Carter
Smith
Harris
Blanc
Dallas
Bowes

I think the slot is up for grabs with Devrin being the only one without a good shot at getting meaningful reps.

These statements are in conflict with what is being said by coaches and reported by the beat writers. Bowles is seldom mentioned but some reference to inconsistency accompanies it when he is. Either the OC or Z recently said that Smith and North were standing out by making difficult catches AND having great athleticism. Could be a motivational tactic but I doubt it since fibbing about the hands would turn every other WR off.

Really?

I mean it is Ainge but that's a pretty big statement coming from anyone with access and media credentials.

Yep that's what he said, crediting his hands-on "show 'em" not just "tell 'em" coaching style

I've seen a ton of dropped balls by multiple receivers in the practice videos. Many more than I would expect even though it is against air. It leaves you thinking wtf is going on? Hopefully a few of them will settle down enough to be reliable.

Maybe CBJ is making them include only the dropsies in the videos so that he can outtrick our opponents with his mind? Hopefully.

Definitely..we have a good balance of different types of receivers.

Again, I'm just going off from what I've seen. I've seen North drop multiple balls, and I haven't seen Drae drop one. As for Smith, I recently heard he was getting reps with the first team O.

EDIT: I'm in no way saying Bowles is better than North.

I didn't read it that way. I have seen video where Bowles dropped almost every ball though. I guess it is just what we've found out here so far... not seeing the same things.

I would certainly like for Bowles to be a guy who can step up and start. He's the right kind of athlete to help the run game tremendously blocking.

Yea he could do well in helping the run game, I just hope the best for him. He seems to be working his tail off and I just hope it works out in the end.

Don't sleep on Jenkins either. He has mad ball skills and is real fluid in his movements

I truly hope that the situation is as competitively good as our jousting here for various players... If so, that group is going to surprise a BUNCH of people.
