Azzanni wants 4

Coach Azzanni said he wants 4 WRs that he can count on and trust as his go to guys this fall, but will play as many as 9 in a single game. My opinion only, but I see 3 of those spots being filled with:

Croom
Pig
North

And the 4th spot being up for grabs between:

Blanc
Smith
Harris
Jenkins

The rest that will rotate in spots during games:

Young
Carter
Dallas
Bowles

Anybody else see if differently? Am I missing anyone?

Bowles seems to be drifting away

Dallas proved he could get deep last year. Pig has the speed to run by safeties. North has the speed. Blanc and Smith are both said to have very good speed. Young can run.

And I really like Croom as a deep threat. If he gets isolated on a CB then you have to like your 6'5" 230 lb WR vs CB's that are almost always 6' or under and usually less than 200 lbs.

If speed was all it took to be a deep threat though then BYU would never throw the deep ball. They do and have for a long time. Scheme and play design can make up for speed.
I agree scheme and play design can make up for speed as well as a lot of other things. I haven't seen where anyone has said speed is all it takes to be a good overall WR or just a great deep threat. You still have to have the skillset to get off the line of scrimmage, get open and catch the ball. Speed is a major factor though, the faster you are the easier it hypothetically is to get the separation you need to stay open. You got two WRS who have exactly the same skill set when it comes to running routes and catching the ball. One runs a 4.3, the other runs a 4.8. Who do you think is going to be the better WR out of those two? Which one will have the better stats? Speed is the difference between taking one to the house or getting tackled at the 30 yard line.
