Bachmann literally proves she is an idiot

the claim was made in Jan 09 so he was already Pres-elect

So he didn't speak on unemployment on the campaign trail? I could be wrong, but don't think I am.

It doesn't really matter. I accept that he didn't "keep his promise." No point in arguing semantics.

I thought the point of the thread was politicians making claims that they have no chance in hell of achieving.

I thought the thread was about Bachmann literally proving she's an idiot.

Which the example isn't literal proof, since it's possible that gas could hit $2/gallon but she would have absolutely nothing to do with it.

I agree on the turnaround.

Even tho I'm a white southerner, that wears overalls, married my sister, and dips snuff I can still hope the president black or white does the best by the country. Regardless of race or party.

your turn.

Lincoln's first inaugural address:

I have no purpose, directly or indirectly, to interfere with the institution of slavery in the States where it exists. I believe I have no lawful right to do so, and I have no inclination to do so.

In doing this there needs to be no bloodshed or violence, and there shall be none unless it be forced upon the national authority. The power confided to me will be used to hold, occupy, and possess the property and places belonging to the Government and to collect the duties and imposts; but beyond what may be necessary for these objects, there will be no invasion, no using of force against or among the people anywhere.

You can dismiss it all you want, but holding up two one dollar bills and saying that under her administration gas would cost $2 a gallon? She is going to be relentlessly mocked by everyone except Fox News, which has its collective head up hers and Perry's butts.

Fox doesn't outright criticize Romney, but they clearly favor the evangelical tea party types. I guess they figure they need to be minimally polite to Romney in case he wins. But no shortage of commentary and stories on Fox of late not-so-subtly saying that Romney isn't conservative enough.

It seems like you are most concerned with cosmetics. The fact that she used a prop to make a dumb promise gives it more weight in your mind? Never mind that Obama promised the world and delivered nothing, she held up 2 $1 bills....like an idiot!!!!!

didn't Obama campaign on the promise to end the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan? Heck, his first day in office he signed an executive order shutting down Gitmo within one year.

wasn't there also a campaign speech where it was promised that the "earth would begin to heal itself" once Obama was elected?

For awhile there, I had gained some respect for her. She sounded solid in interviews, seemed calm and, although I disagree with her on many issues, she seemed to have thought her positions through and could articulate them well.

And now this:

Bachmann: I'll bring back $2 gas - Aug. 18, 2011

Did you even read the article?

One of the effects of Clinton's strong dollar policy was low gas prices. One of the effects of late Bush and Obama weak dollar policy has been inflated gas prices.

I am not sure she could get it done in 4 years or even 8 but a smart energy policy that took more transit to electric rail... and more nuke electricity could certainly drive fossil fuel demand down significantly. A $2 price may not be realistic within a presidency but a $2.30-$2.50 is without question.

Question though... you swallow Obama's far fetched promises whole even when we explain to you why his ideas won't work... for instance you believed the stimulus would work... and probably think it did... but now Bachmann is an "idiot" for promising something as simple as $2/gal gas?

Or maybe I should just put it this way... Americans consume 362 million gallons of gas per day or just over 132 billion gallons per year. If the cost of Obama's stimulus is only $900 billion then he spent $6.81 for every gallon of gas that Americans consume in a year.

Considering that low energy costs are known to help economic growth while Obama's stimulus is now recognized by most as a failure... whose plan sounds idiotic?

Bachmann could subsidize gas $1.80 per gallon, bring the price down to $2 or under, and STILL spend over $650 billion less than Obama blew on paying off his friends.

It sounded stupid. He told me to go - I didn't want to at first - but I did it because he told me to.

You are trying far too hard to find something. A liberal in a co-equal marriage could easily say the same thing.

Have you never been pushed by a friend to do something... you might even say something like that.

FWIW, you should really understand the full biblical teaching on marital submission before throwing condemnations around. The very same passage that commands women to submit commands men to love their wives like Christ loved the church and gave Himself for it. Christ REPEATEDLY served His disciples and others and glorified serving others. He even washed the disciples' feet... a task usually reserved to bond servants.

I'm not condemning anything. I'm saying it sounded really dumb. It was said in the context of being submissive as well - Im not taking it out of context, fwiw.

Did you just compliment Clinton?:eek:hmy:

I have complimented Clinton many times. His strong dollar policy had largely the same effect as a "tax cut for the rich". It made US investment dollars stronger.

He still should have been convicted and removed from office for lying under oath... but some of his policies were very effective. His cooperation with the GOP under Newt gave us effective welfare reform.

Fiscally speaking, Clinton was well to the right of W.
