Bama, Georgia and everyone else.

You act like I’m bashing, I’m not. We just need a real test.
Oklahoma was, according to just about everyone here, a "real test" right up until we beat them handily. Now we just need a real test.

After Arkansas, we'll just need a real test.

After Florida? Same.

After Bama? Who knows. But it's sure getting old how nothing our lads do is enough to overcome the stubbornly-insistent BVS of a few of us here.

Go Vols!

By all means, if you are satisfied with the teams we beat as being complete. That’s good for you.

I don’t feel we played a complete team. None worthy of a top 25 and they’ve been mostly low bottom feeders.

I’ll be satisfied saying we are an elite team, as long as we do what needs to be done about Arkansas.

In no way am I saying we aren’t great.

Oh my opening sentence acknowledged "fandom" and all that entails. I was just riffing on the post I'd quoted at the time which was more or less making the "to be the man you gotta beat the man" observation which is accurate. The other stuff can be fun and entertaining but until we show we belong with the AL's and GA's (which is only temporarily speculative) what actual claim do we have? We're #4 in the nation...it's not like we're really being disrespected. And that's with the current #1 coming to our house in 3 games. There's little need for angst now.
Angst? Confidence in out #4-ranked team is the opposite of angst. GO VAWLS !!! 😁

You misunderstood the comment. There are people out in our fan base you'd swear were unaware we're #4 and are hidden under a rock while everyone only talks about AL/GA/OSu/TX. Not only is that wrong on its face we're in position to quell all doubt about how good we are to everyone. (Not just our fans)

What a game.

Georgia wins this game by a larger margin in Athens.

We are now seeing the best at this point in the season of GA and Bama, and I haven’t seen a team that can hang with this.

Either way, same ole same ole.

I think this is what we expected,

Albeit, when you consider what we have seen so far, the margin is smaller.

I expect to see more separation between these two from the rest of the pack as well as between the tier 2 teams to create a 5th tier.

I think TX will either join Bama and Georgia, or join some teams in tier 2 that separate themselves from the rest.

As of now, I think you have to put a lot of teams in tier 2.

Tier 1 = Bama, Georgia

Tier 2 = LSU, SC, KY, Ole Miss, Tennessee, TX

Tier 3 = TA&M, Arkansas, Oklahoma, Florida, Vanderbilt, Missouri

Tier 4 = Miss St, Auburn

Tennessee has a heck of a challenge ahead of itself.. I think we have been a little high on ourselves considering the stats we have put up and the competition we have faced so far.

Tennessee has to get a LOT better. I also think this bye week, while early, came at a very good time.

If we stay healthy and get better… who knows? But as of now, it seems we may be a big step away from beating GA or Alabama.
What??? Tier 2 = LSU, SC, KY, Ole Miss, Tennessee, TX

You drinking heavily last night?

LSU, SC, KY, and Ole Miss is not tier 2. Lol

- Chattanooga was a cupcake. We’ll find out how good they are against NC St.

- NC St. was overrated. We weren’t really tested.

- Kent St was a cupcake. We’ll find out how really good this team is against Oklahoma in Norman.

- Oklahoma was overrated. We still haven’t been tested on offense.

How many times are you guys to shift this narrative every time we win?

So if we beat Arkansas, they’ll also be overrated and we haven’t really beat anybody?

How about admitting we have a damn good football team this year instead of downplaying them? Just a thought.
We are good, but the teams we've beat are garbage. Both can be true and not be a total kool aid drinker. We will have our chance to prove it and I can't wait.

Tennessee is a really good team, but some of our fans are absolutely delusional. This is why we get made fun of constantly (ex. This year is our year). Let the season play out before we think we're the 85 Bears. Jesus.

You kinda had me until you put Tennessee in the same tier as KY and SC. I guess by default of the head to head, Ole Miss should be in the same tier as KY, which isn’t our tier.

I disagree. We beat a clearly more talented Bama team in ‘22 and we had them beat last year for a half until second half officiating steered the game. We can beat Bama, and UGA looks more vulnerable this year than they have in the last several.

Not saying they are guaranteed wins, but we are good enough now to at least split, if not win both.
I want us to win both Ga. and Bama game, and if we play our a game I think we win both. But being realistic I say we beat Bama at home, and lose to Ga on the road. But again if we bring our a game we can win both of them.

Watching Georgia and Alabama and their own struggles on offense as well as defense, some of which were self-inflicted, 10 or 11 wins is a distinct possibility for Tennessee, particularly if they continue to improve as the season progresses, with a lighter road schedule now that the Oklahoma game is in the rear view mirror.

The UT athletic department is already looking at ticketing plans for hosting a first round playoff game for their season ticket holders.

Alabama is still a Saban stocked team with plenty of talented sophomores and juniors on the field, the true freshman guys on the field were all Saban offer and commits and fully met his recruiting specs, this time last year Ryan Williams was catching passes down at his Mobile Saraland high school, a can't miss phenomenal talent and Zabian Brown was solid consensus five star coming out of Mater Dei in Orange County, California who chose Alabama over Georgia, Ohio State as well as USC up the road. Will be interesting to see if DeBoer can hang on to the talent pipeline and following assembled by Saban.
If Deboer can get the talent, to me he has already shown he is a very good field coach, only time will tell about the talent he can recruit.

It's funny you bring that up. The Circus catch that 17 year old Ryan Williams made last night, absolutely nobody starting on our roster has demonstrated that level of concentration and athleticism. And yet there Mike Matthews sits on the bench, having barely played. Where the hell is OUR 5 star freshman? I dont think it's because our starters are so much better, I just think our staff has a strong belief in starting upper classmen over freshmen.
I agree, that's the only reason imo that Nico didn't start last year.

In the case of Milton, it wasnt just that he was a senior, he had the locker room. With the QB position, you can't disrupt the culture and the team was clearly behind Milton. If you attempt to disrupt that, you get a 2005 situation.

It’s over for us was never said. Right now those two teams are the best. We have to get better. Especially on OL. Some teams do and some don’t.
The polls don’t seem to agree with you either. All you have done is try to tell people to quit being excited about the VOLS. Take that nonsense somewhere else we don’t want to hear that crap! It’s like you’re almost afraid to be a fan.

Transitive property doesn't work in sports. If that's the case then South Carolina should trounce Georgia since they hammered Kentucky while Georgia only won by 2 points.

You ready to say South Carolina is a better team than Georgia?
Also, don’t forget how many points did Clemson give up to North Carolina State wasn’t it like 35?

Who cares they did not score an offensive touchdown against us. So I don’t understand anyone saying they beat NC State worse than us.
I'm saying just stating "NCst scored 35 points" is a pretty misleading stat. It is NOT misleading to make the observation Clemson gave up 14 pts in the first 3 quarters where we didn't allow any all game.

The only real reason in citing Clemson in any useful way is that it's likely to stay a quality win for GA. (or at the very least counts as one currently) Since we play AL & GA ourselves stressing over rankings is little more than killing time before those games happen.

SC, KY, nor Ole Miss are second tier. I disagree with your take. I think they're lower...GBO.

We just saw that Ga and the Gumps are really good teams. We also saw a buttload of flaws in both of them. We have a team that could possibly, possibly beat them. We have Ga on the road, the only game I think we lose, sadly. At home we should find a way to beat this Gump team. Play for the conference title and earn our bye week! LFG VFLers
