Bama might be on their way down

While I would like to think bama is going down, in the media age that we are in, I'm not so sure. The SEC has become NFL-lite and possibly on some of the better days for an SEC team and a horrible day for an NFL team, the SEC team might come close. Coming at the right time for hype in the media age, bama has probably gained more of an edge that we would like to think. I am not going to worry about the decline of bama as much as I am to the Rise to the Top of the Big Orange so that the Vols are not intimidated by bama. Don't have to beat them every year but I don't want to think it isn't possible and have the knowledge that in some years, the Vols were on top. The new playoff system may help the SEC. The likelihood that one or more SEC teams gets in the Top Four is pretty good. With the addition of atm and mizzoo, I was starting to think that the 6+1+1 formula would end up with no SEC team having a chance to compete for the national championship unless the team was undefeated. Few can go through that gauntlet undefeated. Had it not been for MSU, the barners would have not been in the NC game this year. Tennessee needs to aspire to be in the Top Four every year. Some years that means SEC-East Champion, some years SEC champion, and some years (hopefully) National Champion. And, like in the case of bama a couple of years ago, a team could be second in a division and still win the national championship.

By the way, mega congrats to Coach Thig! Now everybody in the nation knows what we know.

Let's all, if we can afford it, show the rest of the country what fan support is like by attending the Spring Game on April 12. Let's add another talking point brick for Butch and the Coaching Staff by having an all-time record Spring Game crowd. GBO!!

I'd like to alternate Bama with other West division schools. Till the Vols get back up to their level, we shouldn't have to play them every single year. The age-old rivalry just isn't the same as it used to be; Bama-Day doesn't feel the same as it did back in the sixties and seventies.

I agree it hasn't really felt the same the last decade or so, but it's one of the biggest rivalries in all of cfb when both teams are contending for sec championships, which I think will be happening in 2-3 years. It should become one of the top games in the league again every season soon. It's too big of a rivalry to not play them every year even if one has been down like us lately.

until proven otherwise.....pencil in bama for at least 10 wins....until they have a season where they don't win 10.

With the current staff, roster and incoming recruiting class...10 wins is almost automatic.

However, the fan base will not be tolerant of just "10" win seasons. Saban created this monster and it will be interesting to see if he can maintain it.

This thread is like the "we're gonna beat Florida for sure this year". Bama's not on the way down and won't be for a few years at least.

Based on what, the oddest play I've ever seen to end a game? If Bama and Auburn played 10 times last year, Bama wins 7-8 times.

My point is that, going forward, I'd rather play, and beat, the winner of the West division than to play Bama necessarily if Bama does not turn out to be the West division champion.

Bama is still the elite team in the West.

Bama's recruiting class after the 2009 NC won 2 national championships.

Bama won national titles in 2011 and 2012 after bad days at the office. And had the new playoff been in place in 2013, Bama would have been in it despite the loss to Auburn.

Bama went 12-0 in the regular season in '08, and went undefeated all together in '09. You seem to be a real history buff.

Tennessee still has a long way to go to close the gap.
Funny how bama fans are already reminding folks of there PAST success....instead of there future
Speaking of past, 2011 SEC champs--LSU
2013 was the year that Bama had all the talent in world and the so called best coach, yet lost to AUBURN....then to showcase there coaching prowless....they give Saban a 2mil a yr raise to lose(a beatdown) to OK. Then Hire Kiffin. AHH...yes....more goodtimes to come.
Auburn was 4-8 in 2012? Did they close any gaps .....must have been a fluke, right?
Vols closing the gap may come a little sooner than you think.

edit: barn may have been 3-9 in '12, whats differnce

If you guys remember our recruiting class after we won the NC, we started our decline after that point. We had a pretty impressive class, but things started to shift in the SEC.

Can't do much better recruiting than what Bamer has done the past 5yrs or so...but, when you consider how well Bama's division rivals are recruiting, as well, they are in for a tough ride.

LSU and A&M had No.2 and No.3. Auburn was like No.8. All you have to do...the Denver Broncos can attest to this...is simply have a bad day. One bad day at the office and there goes (usually) a shot at the NC.

In fact, despite them having stellar recruiting classes, they have yet to go undefeated during the regular season, under Saban. It's about to get a whole lot worse for them, competition-wise. Not only do they have to try and get through the gauntlet of TAM, LSU and Auburn...but they also have us to contend with as well.

It's not going to be a cake-walk for them, anymore, in Knoxville.

:lolabove:

Yeah they are defiantly on their way down(after signing the #1 class for the fifth straight year). With the talent on hand it would take 5-6 years of you coaching them to bring them down!!

Stop trying to make yourself believe it man. And do some fact checking. If you can't remember Alabama going undefeated twice then how should you know what they will or won't do in the next few years?

Say they do drop off. Even at 9-3 UT will have a hard time beating them even if Jones is the man.

Let's see, UT fans are pretty pumped up about the future as well, AND, Bama had a much better recruiting class than UT. Bama isn't getting weaker, talent wise.

I would love to see parody return to the historical top ten teams in the SEC. TN with a winning conference record would be good start. Bama isn't ready for a nosedive yet but I think everyone here would enjoy seeing it happen. If anything it would be good drama

We will see how it goes with Kiffin, new QB, struggles defending Hurry Up offenses. Saban and staff will get many more tests, and many other teams(vols) are/ wil be capitalizing on bama's few weaknesses.

I heard the same thing from the bammers during our last run over them. This rivalry has always been streak after streak. I for one never want this game to go any where. There day is coming when they will be looking at the schedule and start sweating the "Third Satuday in October".

No, it's not. I just happened to notice how tough life is going to be, for a while, for Bama. I'm talking about the fact that the competition in the SEC is closing ranks with them. That's why TAM, LSU and Auburn have knocked them off their perch, DESPITE Bamers recruiting classes.

They are right in the same sentence when accolades are handed around for recruiting successes. Conversely, look at the recruiting rankings in the SEC E. Not nearly as competitive. Bama faces a gauntlet every year, now. Auburn isn't going anywhere. They aren't going to be just an "also ran" in the West, anymore.

Remember how bad we had it with Florida to contend with every year...even when Peyton was under center. The gators often had a NC caliber team, but would get knocked off by their in-state rivals, FSU.

Bama has to face 3-4 teams like that EVERY year now. It starts having an effect, and remember, we didn't instantly end up in the doldrums...it was a steady decline. So, no...this is not a "we gonna beat them Bamers" thread.

It's a "Damn...look at slug-fests they have to endure now!" Oh, and "Damn...they got Kiffin to screw things up for them, now," too. :)

Huh? What? We beat them exactly ONCE in the 70s & that was 1970! Before they started their run from 2007, we beat them 7 straight times & 10 out of 12 from 95-06. It'll be our turn again soon.

When we beat Bama...and Florida...and UGA...and Mizzou...and (swallow hard) Vandy...then we can crow.

Until then, it's a sandwich we have to eat. In the SEC, you get no credit for what you were, only what you are.

Go Vols.

The bamers do a good job of selling 2 years on the freaking bench!
