Bama player appeared to hit woman as he left the field…

I agree and that’s why most companies are now training their employees about the dangers of social media. Heck I just a took a course yesterday regarding this exact scenario. Once your employer is tagged, they have no choice but to fire otherwise they are seen as endorsing or advocating the behavior regardless of when the post occurred.
Yea, they do have a choice but instead of doing the right thing they cave to all this bs social media nonsense.

Correct. If it went to a legal battle, while there’s certainly a case to be made vs Mr Burton, he (and the University of Alabama) could turn it right back around and say “Tennessee’s security team’s job is to protect the players on the field and ensure their safe exit and they failed to do that.” It’s not as black and white as we may want it to be.

In the end, everyone would lose in that scenario, and Tennessee would make sure that no one ever stormed the field again.
He was walking calmly down the field, showed no signs of being in fear. He deliberately reached out, swung on a woman and then kept slowly walking.
He showed no signs of feeling like he was in fear for his safety or in danger after he hit her
That is black and white, he committed simple assault in TN.

Well what would you expect!!
First, it like all such incidents, are a stampede.
Second, this or any player of a losing team just wants to get the hel- off the field and to the dressing room.
Third, contact with crazed fans is/should be expected.
Fourth, THIS IS WHY IT IS A RULE VIOLATION TO STORM FIELDS OF PLAY AND TEAR UP EQUIPMENT. SAFITY FOR ALL CONCERNED.
Everyone knew beforehand that we'd storm the field if we won including Alabama, neither person in the videos did anything to provoke him other than walking close to him and if that's a smackable offense Dollywood would be a darn free for all.

The Steve guy is now posting apologies on twitter. Probably just lost his job and uprooted his entire life over a dumb comment. Just a bad situation for Al involved.
Him saying that is t who he is…he is full of it. Judging by his past comments he is definitely that person. He clearly has some vendetta against all things Tennessee too.

Agreed, there is no way to justify the comment or spin it in a way that makes it OK.
Nobody said it was ok as it was clearly a stupid comment. But, we still have freedom of speech in this country last I checked. Sticks and stones - remember? This guy only typed some words, he didn’t assault anyone and his employer has no right to take actions against him. He should be judged at work on the basis of his job performance. JMO

Retaining an employee who critisized violence against a woman as not going far enough is the "right thing"?

Freedom of speech applies to the right to criticize the government

Nowadays people get sued for freedom of speech:

Agree 100% about that. Who's at fault is very black and white.

But the ramifications of the legal process playing out are not black and white. It wouldn't take place in a vacuum, there would be a ripple effect. To my knowledge, there's never been a case of a player being charged with assault on a fan entering the field/court. There would be a strong reaction from the SEC and/or NCAA to prevent this from happening in the future. It's a black eye for those entities and they'll be highly motivated to increase the penalties for fans rushing the court/field in the future. You can count on that.

Yup it was no secret that fans would be storming the field when UT won. Everybody knew. There's even a video that shows the refs after the it's good signal making a B line straight to off the field. I'm betting everyone was told before hand these are the exit points and to get there

So he’s a fan of a rival team - public caning immediately!
Actually someone dug up an old post that he made public and it was really bad. Not even going to repeat what it was (non sport related) but it was probably 10/10 on something you def shouldn’t post on Social Media.

Saying that this dude "punched" her is way off the mark.......I'd say it was more like he swiped her phone out of his face while walking off the field. This is about as big of a nothing burger as you're gonna find, but you do you Volnation.....you do you.........
 it's nothing alright it made national news headlines.

Cmon man - the guy made a stupid comment following an athletic event. He didn’t call folks to arms to kill women. So many folks have become so easily triggered these days
if this dude is a salesman how do you spin that to a client whos aware of his statements? There are mistakes and then theres doing things too dumb to tolerate. I don't think any employer should have an obligation to fire someone for something they post online (within reason) but you can hardly call it the right thing from an ethical standpoint to retain the guy. I don't think its a serious miscarriage of justice either way in this instance.

If he wanted to simply get off the field, he should have done that. He had a clear path. He chose the other path of hitting a girl.
