It was unnecessary and could have been his way of trying to provoke someone to retaliate, it's not like he slugged her but he did initiate contact in both occasions.
If you have Twitter you need to pile on this dirtbag that responded to Houston Kress retweeting this.
Exactly how would you propose stopping fans from rushing the field again? A fine isn't going to mean anything to the student section.I agree with you in principle, but this is how they’ll see it: “If we REALLY want to make sure this never happens again, we’ll up the ante and make the school fines much higher, so the school prevents people from rushing the field!”
Under that scenario, the fans lose. The SEC doesn’t want the liability, so they’ll put it all on the school, forcing Tennessee to make sure no one ever rushes the field again. And I don’t think any of us want that to happen.
This has to be one of the dumbest things I have read in a long while. He didn't even stop. Let's not play "What if he shot her???" That's dumb.
Deal with what happened. He appears to stiff arm her away from him like he does in the second video and not even break stride. I wouldn't have done that but I've seen worse shoves in Walmart on Black Friday, haven't you? And I've certainly seen worse shoves in or around Neyland when people get heated.
He's leaving the field where he has every right to be and a legit mob of people who don't like him and don't belong on the field suddenly rush the field. He doesn't try to run over anyone but he's not going to be bothered by anyone either.
I'd be right with you if he slugged someone and knocked teeth out but he didn't. He pushed and kept walking. He didn't pursue anyone. He didn't engage in a fight. He left the field and got people away from him.
One of the big arguments about Jaylan McCullough is that "he was in his house minding his own business and some drunk opened the door...... and he shouldn't have come in the wrong place." Arguably, the field is where the players are supposed to be, not the fans, so don't go on the field and expect good things to happen with the players. You aren't supposed to be there.
I don't disagree with anything you're saying. But we do live in a different day and age and from a legal and liability standpoint, the more this situation blows up, regardless of who's at fault, the worse it will be for everyone involved, even if Burton is clearly the guilty party here.Exactly how would you propose stopping fans from rushing the field again? A fine isn't going to mean anything to the student section.
It would take some physical barrier like the fence at race tracks around the perimeter of the entire field or nets at hockey arenas.
This isn't the first time in history fans have spilled onto the field but it is the first time I'm aware of a player interacting physically with someone who rushed the field. Think it might be an issue with player?
I’d prefer he face the consequences for his actions and get any help he needs to grow and become a better person. He’s a person, not just a dadgum ole Bammer, bee-ruther!!
This is typical Bammer behavior i believe Alabama fans did this to an Oklahoma fan before their Sugar Bowl against OU.An Alabama player is under investigation for hitting several Tennessee fans when they rushed the field. What a classless lowlife!

Already a thread for this. Where have you been?An Alabama player is under investigation for hitting several Tennessee fans when they rushed the field. What a classless lowlife!

I agree with you, some people just have to take the other side of the argument, I guess from some point of views it's a player on the losing team just trying to get through a frenzied crowd but to me it's a jerk taking advantage of the frenzy to get in a couple swipes at people.I’m a lot older than most people on this board I’m sure, but I’m shocked at the number of people here defending him or brushing it off. Guess I’m just old fashioned but I was always taught that you never hit a woman unless she assaults you. That young lady did everything in her power to avoid him. Whe she realized their paths were going to cross she stopped and veered around him to the point he had to fully extend his arm to strike her. He should have had his butt mobbed right then. The fact he didn’t is a testament that it was not a hostile environment. It’s the defense of stuff like this that I just shake my head at know the world is upside-down morally and my days are gone. I’m just an old out of touch dinasaur.
Yea, he is probably still clueless about what he has done. Probably just driving into work and is about to find out what happens when you play stupid games. The awe inspiring VolTwitter already has his FB account, tagged his employer and found a previous tweet of his using the ‘N’ word. Looks like Steve stepped well off into the deep end of a crap pool and is rapidly sinking.![]()
He swatted at her while she was clearly trying to get out of his way, and she was talking on her phone. She wasn't taking his picture, trying to embarrass him, etc. To act like he didn't purposely go out of his way, had to extend fully to hit her, is silly. Dude had issues, he was mad, a pathetic excuse for a man, because that's the type who take their anger out on someone weaker, and took a shot at her. You'd be okay in that scenario for a guy to do that to your wife or daughter? Now the video up, nothing I said is wrong, he's a little sissy.Saying that this dude "punched" her is way off the mark.......I'd say it was more like he swiped her phone out of his face while walking off the field. This is about as big of a nothing burger as you're gonna find, but you do you Volnation.....you do you.........
