I would like to apologize to the "mature vol fans" for the way I posted my first response to this thread. I didnt think there could be any rash conversation, guess I was wrong.

Ok, here is what I mean. The way that they awarded NCs was a lot different back in the day. If you really want a historical view of college football, there's a book called "The Crimson Tide: The Story of Alabama Football". I know that it sounds biased, but it really isn't. It talks about the beginings of college football and how everything worked back then, not just about Alabama football.

Honestly, I objectively wouldn't say that you could call any NCs a "farce" from back then without saying that some of the BCS NCs have been "farces". If that's the way that the national football community awarded championships back then, then who are we to argue?

You're right. We should really put "Got 19??" on the back of our shirts. Or maybe "Got 21??".... SEC Championships that is.:p

It's all good. I'm the same way with sports as I am with politics and most other things. I try to wash away all the media slant and bias and deal strictly with facts. Of course, thats alot easier said than done. I get way more upset with the media because of their bias than I ever will at UT's opponents. Well, maybe with the exception of Florida...:lol:

Well, as you guessed it, my answer to that would be that today's 12 team powerhouse conference known as the SEC wasn't established in its current form until 1992. It's like comparing apples to... really old apples. haha

Oh ya the media drives me nuts. Biased is not even close...

You know I will be honest here. I dont have a problem having normal chats with UT fans, but there are so many UT fans in the Chattanooga area who are uncapable of talking. True for the other side as well. When it comes down to it, UT will have great and not so great years as will Bama. It will all come full circle down the road.

Yep, what goes up must come down. I don't know if you watch much NFL football but if you would've told me, in the late 80s/early 90s that in 2005 the Colts, Patriots, and Seahawks would be good and that the 49ers and Green Bay would be garbage, I would've laughed at you. College football teams are able to maintain more consistency because of recruiting and tradition, but it's still very cyclical. And like yourself, as passionate as I am about football, I get so tired of meeting all these guys who are one bad joke away from fighting.

I didn't read the entire thread, so I hope this hasn't been brought up too much. One of the main reasons that I was rooting for Texas in the Rose Bowl was that I did not want a Pac-10 team to be the first team to win 3 NCs in a row after an SEC team got screwed out of it (Notre Dame was getting gifts from polls even back then). Of course, this was before I was aware that the first two of Bama's would-be 3-peat were a bunch of junk. I'm still glad that USC lost though. I can't wait for Saturday. I got a nice seat on ebay before the UGA win drove up the asking price!

it at least brings up the point that most institutions, UT included, will claim a NT if someone, anyone says that they won it....doesn't make it so in all cases, but at the end of the day way back when, there was no system....nothing from a national perspective that tied it all together. a lot of it was done regionally, and the exposure to college football back then wasn't exactly like it is today now was it? I doubt seriously that anyone outside the south in those days ever even saw Alabama play, and likewise for those in the South ever really saw teams in the west, mid west and northeast play...

if you could get in print back then, anywhere, then it was legit...it doesn't really matter...

Who are the ones protesting?? You guys or us.

We got what we want. 12 National Titles recognized by the NCAA. Why would we protest that?? We are merely rebutting UT fans protest. This is about the 20th post that I have read in this thread that referenced something that was completely inaccurate. Maybe you guys should get your facts straight before posting statements that don't tell the whole truth.

I have my facts straight. Bama is a corrupt football program that should have received the death penalty, and would have if they weren't bama. Since '95 we have beaten Bama 9 out of 11. After Oct. 21st that number will be 10 out of 12. Also, I do not care if the NCAA recognizes your "12 National Championships" anyone who has the least little bit of intelligence would agree that some of those NCs are bogus.

I notice none of the bammers have anything of substance to dispute the original post. Mainly they attack the credibility of the poster, claiming he was jealous, etc. But nothing of substance to repudiate what was originally presented. That's pretty telling.

No, what is pretty telling is the fact that you guys sit around and dispute OUR national championsips. How's about worrying about your own team?? Don't you think that would be far more productive?? If I wanted to I could spin every one of the National Titles ever given into looking like a farce, but why?? What good would it do me?? Fact is that we have more NC's than UT. We have more SEC Champ's than UT. We have more 10 win seasons than UT. We have more bowl appearances than UT. We have more bowl wins than UT. How does it feel to be second in everything??:neener2:

1. You know what, you are right. We now have seven national championships. 1938, 1940, 1950, 1951, 1956, 1967, and 1998. I'm calling our Athletic Department.
