I am glad his time has come and gone. He was a solid linebacker for the Vols but his off the field troubles can’t be denied. Sadly, if he didn’t complete his degree, he will probably struggle. He is too small to think he will make an NFL roster. Good luck to him but most of us can agree…..we are glad it’s finally over. Merry Christmas to all. Go Vols beat those Tigers and whiny Dabo.

This has the potential to be addition by subtraction IMO…the only question would be on the leadership side of things…he seemed to have at least some kind of pull with at least some of the players on D…if Beasley or Mitchell (or someone at another position) can fill that role then this won’t be a loss IMO…

Beasley, Mitchell, Pili, Herring, Perry, Carter, Smith, Telander….there’s no doubt we’ve upgraded the talent at that position…and that entire group is here for spring ball…I expect a huge jump from this group next year

“I hate Banks and anyone that didn’t lead us to wins. I don’t care what these “kids” might be dealing with in their lives, just win football games for the Vols. That’s the only reason they are here. That’s also why I don’t care about punishment for players that get in trouble off the field. If they are good enough to help us win, I don’t care if they get in fights, DUIs, rob banks, or whatever. Just win games. I don’t want to hear about how hard it is to be a full time student and football player, just win games. Forget their “sacrifice”, they have it easy. Just win games.”

Well we shut out Vanderbilt the following week when he was there. So I kind of think he could have...

You shouldn't say definitively that he wouldn't have made a difference. That's being a bit naive. You can't just replace the leader of the defense and not expect repercussions.
It's also a bit naive to assume Vanderbilt has the same talent that South Carolina does

Banks was a distraction. One or two stops and that game is a different ballgame. Our defense just surrendered late in the game. Half the players had given up at kickoff. Carolina went from one of the worst offensive teams in the conference to scoring a TD on every single possession.
While I partially agree, the pass defense has been terrible all year against any team with an offensive pulse. Maybe not having the distraction changes things but Banks being on the field doesn't change much.

If you believe, as tennesseeduke does....then perhaps you should consider replacing Coach Heupel ASAP. Jeremy Banks was Captain of our defense. If Coach Heupel allowed that, and regarding the team.. "all of them" are glad he's gone...you gotta ask what's wrong with our Head Coach.
I have supported Jeremy throughout his career at Tennessee. He definitely has had problems off the field, no question and even my own support has wavered a bit. At the end of the day...or, if true...at the end of his career at Tennessee...I'm glad he played at Tennessee.
As to his future....I have ZERO interest in NFL Football, NONE whatsoever. If he's playing there I won't be aware, nor care.
I wish him well in his future.
Do we know how UT chooses captains? I've seen it both ways. Coaches choose. Players choose. Not sure how Heupel does it.

I had heard he was academically ineligible, but hoped the info was wrong.
A member kept insisting he graduated, so hoped it was true.
He just walked to receive a blank paper, I guess.

Yeah, you get a lot of misinformation on here. I've seen anywhere from he's Academically ineligible to he may come back and finish his master's that he's close to finalizing. So, who knows

Pull the dockers out of your ass. He’s a middle linebacker in the SEC, not a damn insurance salesman. It takes people with a different mindset to play this sport at this level and not get themselves killed.
You’re gonna have to do better than that. I didn’t ask for choir boys. It doesn’t take a person who goes on a camera bragging about what they do to cops in Memphis to be a linebacker. You’re what’s wrong with these kids. Always someone making an excuse for the culture they’re brought up in. It’s wrong. Period.

Does it seem odd to anyone he waited until Christmas Eve to announce this? They’ve been bowl practicing for awhile now

I agree. Banks didn’t give up 63 points. Our defense was awful and rattler had the game of his life. Simple as that.

I'm so happy. I don't care if we win the dang orange bowl. It's good pub for recruits to see that we can be relevant. I do hope dabo breaks an Achilles tendon while he's running up and down the sideline though. Love to see that man in pain. Makes me move. It moved Jerry.
