Banks to NFL- opting out of Orange Bowl

No use holding grudges against a player once he is gone. I do believe he gave his all when playing. Seems that new transfer MLB from BYU may be able to fill in very nicely in his place for next season.

It’s time to move on and use the bowl practices and game experience for the younger players and the seniors who want to end the season on a high note.

Go Vols and Merry Christmas!

Strange deal here. When he’s on the field he gives everything he has. Off the field things are a bit strange

Has he been practicing with the team and they had been expecting him to play up until now?
He practiced all the way up to Christmas break. There were ramblings that he may or may not make the trip to Miami. He graduated, that’s for sure. Apparently it was his decision not to play the bowl game.

This guy was a headache. Our D might be worse without him but it’ll give some young guys reps.

I hope the team has prepared the game without him and weren’t blindsided by the Christmas Eve news

Wishing him all the success life can offer. He's been an awesome player for us. GBO!
Thanks for being positive. I am trying to wish him the best, but have some hope for some supposed karma.
I hope he didn't do what we suspect he did.
His head was up his butt if he thought the team owed him something if he was blowing off classes and schoolwork.
And I don't even know who is responsible for who did what in that locker room or what even happened leading up to USCe.
If he plays on Sunday, I hope says his college was UT, and not pull some Arian Foster HS shoutout crap.

I wish Jeremy Banks well throughout his NFL Career.

However, it’s hard for me to ignore his actions by getting himself suspended against South Carolina.

Heupel doesn’t strike me as the type of guy to suspend his best players unless there was a very good reason behind it.

I read he was projected as a fifth-rounder.

Jeremy Banks is the best player on our defense. He was the catalyst for our defense and the enforcer. He has the size speed skill and viciousness to play in the league. His off the field antics will drop his draft stock, but whether drafted or not, he will be playing on Sundays. If I were an NFL GM, I'd certainly drill into the REAL (non media) character of the guy. He's a take all day if the character issues can be handled.
This is the biggest player loss to our team in the OR Bowl IMO.

Guys like Hyatt who have a shot at going in the first, or Tillman who has been beat up all year, I get. But Banks? The guy may not even be drafted

I wish no ill will on the guy but at the same time I’m not going to act like he wasn’t divisive at one of the most important times this season. Him being a distraction potentially cost us a playoff trip.

I doubt he had any choice in the matter. I think the staff and team are ready to move forward without “distractions”.

Idk where this false narrative that banks is the best player on our defense comes from. He’s not even our best LB.

The only thing he does well is QB spy. That’s where most of his deflections and sacks come from. But he doesn’t read and react well and he doesn’t cover well. That’s probably 90% of what a LB is asked to do

he was out there at practice but he got very little in the way of reps. he was just there. Here are the football players that graduated this fall as released by Tennessee. Banks did not graduate.

The football players completing their master’s degrees are: Starting tight end Jacob Warren, starting defensive lineman LaTrell Bumphus and walk-on defensive lineman Maurese Smith are earning degrees in Agricultural Leadership, Education and Communication, offensive lineman Ollie Lane (Management & Human Resources), defensive back Cheyenne Labruzza (Recreation & Sport Management) and punter/kicker Paxton Brooks (Kinesiology).

The Tennessee football players completing their undergraduate degrees are offensive lineman Jerome Carvin (Communication Studies), defensive backs Warren Burrell (Communication Studies), Trevon Flowers (Communication Studies) and Jaylen McCollough (Communication Studies), walk-on wide receiver Michael Bittner (Finance), walk-on defensive back Romello Edwards (Recreation & Sport Management) and offensive lineman Kingston Harris (Communication Studies), who didn’t play this season.

Banks did more to tear this team apart, than he did to help us win. Well…. Bye
This is another nominee for dumb post of the year. Did you miss the fact that he led the team in tackles two years in a row iirc? I feel he is one one many victims of NIL. No rules, no oversight. It will create friction along the lines if what supposedly happened earlier this year.

Our D sure sucked at SC without him so hope they find someone quick who can call the blitzes etc that are needed. If D has to set back in coverages we are toast.

He will always be remembered for what he did off the field more than what he did on it. His own actions. Sad, because he had many good games.
He had one good year last year why he came back and and play in only 10 games not start some and had 54 tackles I will never understand. He had 127 tackles last year and sacks interception then 54 tackles 0 sacks 0 ints this year. And he hasn't been hurt.
