Not only can they not violate the Bill of Rights, they cannot violate any of the constitution.
It seems we are in agreement for the most part.
The Bill of Rights is what covers your example. And I referenced the constitution later.

We do appear to be in agreement for though most part.

Though I imagine we might quarrel over what is covered in the rest of the constitution.

I believe Biden handled the vaccine issue appropriately.
Now this is the authoritarian luther that I am familiar with.

(I was certainly never forced to take a vaccine)
Of course you weren't. You probable knocked down an old lady with multiple comorbidities to get your jab.

What about the rest of us?

Luther firmly believes in central control.
Luther was one of the first progressives on this board (maybe the actual first) to come out and say Covid mania had gone too far. And I’m pretty sure vaccine mandates were part of it.

I’ve always given him credit for that.
Maybe I’m mis-remembering.

But yes, he is an ardent believer in the State.

I don’t think you are remembering things correctly at all.

Just shows how little you know and understand.

Quickly, during the pitching change.

I always leaned more to the "let's just function as normally a possible" side -but with the understanding that we were dealing with a complete unknown.
I could easily understand the perspective of those who thought we needed to take more precautions.

As for the state, my stance has always been that the only thing worse than government, is the absence of government.

The only thing I trust less than government is people and business operating in the absence of government.

After 2020, you need to fear both.

Corporations are the glove, but govt is the hand inside the glove.
2020? Big business has been untrustworthy since day one. At least government has a shred of transparency.

My question is, which do you trust least, big business or our government?
I trust neither, but I distrust big business just a tad more.

the government has far less transparency. big business transparency is controlled by the government (the FCC or FTC can't remember which one is proving this with Twitter)

Anyone else remember not that long ago (literally the last few months) when others were trying to claim that teaching children about homosexuality was not inherently sexual?

It’s amazing to me how quick we moved from that to defending books with images of gay sex in elementary libraries.

Sure the world oversees nations. Look at WWII. Look at Ukraine.

If anything those are examples of horrific world governance. There’s a very solid argument to be made about nato being the cause of the Russia/Ukraine conflict

You’ve got it backwards. I’m aware of zero businesses who can kill you, lock you in cages, etc without the explicit permission of the government.

It’s 100% illogical to say you trust people less than government given its people who run government.

In the absence of government businesses would lack the ability of force that makes them so powerful today. Why does the insurance lobby have even more power today than in the past? Because government forces you to buy their product, thanks to Obama and Bernie (who ironically talks about the evil profits of insurance companies, that he voted to create/enlarge).
