Barnes is over Uros

Well what Uros did was on public display in a public setting, so coach handled it publicly. This isn't like it was some behind the scenes or closed door situation
And coach needs to handle it behind closed doors.
When ask about it his response should be, we've addressed it. Next question.
This ain't the first time Barnes has called out players in public.
It's not a good look

During a game officiated as poorly as this one, Barnes should have joined Uros, at some point, in getting a technical. A coach has to have his players back when they are being hosed by lopsided calls. Unless Uros called the dude a piccolo player a warning would have been appropriate by the ref. A point can be made that during a close game, the coach getting T'd up can cause the loss, but games called this poorly shouldn't just be witnessed and dismissed by a coach on the sideline.

CJH will show Barnes how to talk to officials, he will just send him this clip:

I don't get airing player / team issues in public. Handle it coach, run him till he pukes. Sit him a couple of games.
Just stop calling out players in public.

Rick Barnes tired of Uros Plavsic's 'antics'
Barnes doesn’t say anything in public that he hasn’t said privately to a player. I feel pretty certain that Barnes has discussed these issues with Uros before.

Except for the technical, Uros played one of his best games. He's the only player we had that could match up to their inside game on defense. If he continues to play like he did tonight, this team will go far. Barnes will get over it.

Telling a coach how to handle his players, a coach who knows more about basketball and relationships and specific situations within his program, is like Pee Wee Herman telling The Rock to toughen up.

It's not the first time Uros has acted like an azz, so who knows how it's handled privately.
Discussing it publicly is not how I would address it. Sorry if I hurt some feelings this morning.

I think this is a tactic by Barnes to get Uros to play the way he wants him to play. Barnes has too much experience and is too good of a coach to "slip" up and say something like this in public unless he wants it to be public.
I would disagree. I think it was just an honest answer to a question without any preconceived forethought. I really don’t think Barnes ever manufactures tactics to accomplish anything. I think he’s just brutally honest and straightforward with folks, and I think his frustration showed in his response because he’s probably had this conversation with Uros before.

I don’t think any feelings were hurt, I think it is the idea of telling someone else what he should do when that someone else is so intimately involved and invested with his team. Using absolutes is always a little cringeworthy, if you catch my drift.

I really think it's borderline arrogant to believe...regardless of which side of the fence you land on this issue...that we fans know what buttons to push, what's appropriate, and what is effective for a team than the coach who is likely the most active/influential male figure in their lives over the course of 4-5 years. And that that coach has been successfully shaping, teaching, and molding young men over the course of a 36-yr head coaching career.

He isn't infallible, and he is prone to mistakes like any human being, but I don't think his words were spoken in haste or in anger, and he was calm when he said it. I don't think it's something that hasn't already been addressed multiple times with Uros and discussed with Uros in the game and afterwards. At some point, when behavior doesn't change, you have to take a more radical approach.

Publicly calling him out does a number of things. It further puts UP on notice that the behavior isn't acceptable. It lets the officials, administration, and fans know that the staff recognizes it and is holding him accountable (something that blandly stating "it's been addressed" doesn't do). And it hopefully is modestly embarrassing enough that it generates a change. Think of it like being called out in class for talking/acting up when the teacher was talking. It felt harsh and embarrassing, but it likely changed your behavior.

This also could be exactly why Barnes is pushing him to play smarter, because the only thing that limited him against Arizona was himself and the pointless fouls.

WHo cares? He didn't criticize him for being a sh*tty player, he criticized him for being an idiot which he's done on more than one occasion. If Uros doesn't get it together on his own, then this kind of mild call out is just fine with me. Stop acting like Barnes publicly emasculated him.

Don’t be so soft, he called out Ziegler publicly and he’s responded very well ever since…maybe he has tried handling some of the Plavsic stuff privately before and it hasn’t worked? These are now paid 18+ adults, in Plavsic case he’s probably 23/24 years old, I don’t think a little public criticism should be an issue.
