Barnes on JJJ and JP - "it's up to them“

Let's just keep doing the same thing and playing guys who can't create their own shot. I'm sure we'll do well as usual in the tournament.
I just don't understand why you think you've got the answer to our problems as if you've unlocked the secret and our coaching staff, who is paid millions of dollars, is just unwittingly oblivious to it. Do you really think they've not considered the idea of Edwards playing more, most likely for Key, and weighed the pros and cons of it based on much more evidence than you and I are privy to, and determined it isn't in the team's best interest?

I just think they're wrong. The coaching staff is too risk-averse. They already have so many defensive-minded players, having a bad defender who can score off the bench is a risk worth taking. You could pair him with Maishak off the bench so that Edwards isn't too exposed. I'm just sick of our clogged-toilet offense where we hot potato around the perimeter and throw up a bad three late in the shot clock.

The ole “clogged toilet hot potato” offense. Tell me you’re an expert without saying you’re an expert. Well played, sir.

But how does that prove that Edwards *can* score?
It's doesn't prove it. Just give someone else a chance. If your QB has thrown 4 Int. in a game, go to the backup.

So are you all just saying that Edwards sucks and will never be any good here. If that's the case, then fine. But if your argument is he's talented but too young and will make mistakes, that's a dumb reason not to at least give him a chance.

But you literally just said Edwards was a better scorer. Now you're saying we don't know, so we should play him. But that discounts the possibility the coaches know, since they see them in practice

I'm saying my opinion is Edwards is a much better scorer but it is a moot point, because I won't be able to prove it since Barnes won't play any young guards unless he's forced to. Only an injury will get Edwards any significant playing time. It would be one thing if I was saying play Dillone, but Edwards has a whole season of practice under his belt.

They just assume he’s a good college scorer because he was a good high school / AAU scorer

as if that isn’t true about literally every player on the team[/QUOTE

We have lost 5 of the last 7 so something needs to be changed.

What has Barnes done in his time here that's made you believe he won't play any young guards unless he's forced to?

See Mashack last year…. He simply wasn’t ready to contribute. And look how he has developed. Edwards has the ability to make huge strides for next year. Just not ready this season. Nothing wrong with that. you do realize that our staff plays freshman that prove they are ready to contribute. Awaka was rated far lower than edwards but earned his minutes. Same with ZZ last year. This staff isn’t afraid to play freshmen….. give it a rest.

Hell, better off playing Dilione, guarantee he is a better scorer than Edwards. Might as well burn DJ Jefferson's redshirt, because he is probably a better scorer, too. Now, damn it, you got me putting down BJ, because of your insufferable bitching. I like him and think the kid will eventually play well for us. Just not ready, this year

Alabama trolls will dig at anything.

I just don't know where you're getting your proof that Edwards is the answer to our offense. You're just guessing, and hoping, he's the answer. And again, hope isn't a plan. I trust that the coaches have weighed the two options and determined that Edwards offense isn't so much better than Key's that it's worth the falloff, defensively. And Key isn't even a great defender, making the decision all the more scathing with regards to Edwards.

True, except for Jordan Bone.
And Keon Johnson.
And Jaden Springer.
And Kennedy Chandler.
And Zakai Zeigler.

I don't think anyone is entirely opposed to the premise of your theory. But the methods you've gone about presenting and defending it have really proved questionable. You've made several erroneous claims to beef up your argument that are just patently false or 100% opinion presented as fact.

Back to the two hurt guys, they were not limited in practice today. Neither is 100%, but they’ll play as they heal. On an unrelated note Mashack has had two great weeks offensively in practice. He’s scoring on drives and hitting threes consistently. I wouldn’t be surprised to see him breakout with a good game.

I think he had somewhat of a breakout game against UK

Ah hell, Mashack is making those JRich comparisons even more spot on. The light comes on and JRich starts balling, we win 3 games in the NCAA Tournament. Mashack just doing it as a sophomore instead of a junior. No play-in game this time, Elite 8.

Seriously tho, that's great to hear, kid gives it his all and works hard. I remember watching videos of Mashack working with a basketball trainer in high school and he worked his ass off back then. Give me that kind a kid all day long, reminds me of Grant and Admiral's work ethic and JM was a top 100, 4 star. I'm not saying he will eventually get drafted, but if he continues to improve like this, it's possible, eventually.

Btw, I still think we get to the Sweet 16, as long as JJJ or Phillips don't have a setback. Of course, I'm an eternal optimist when it comes to UT basketball

And that's on Barnes. He got spooked with the tampering claims with Collins and chose to ride with what he had. It's done, but let's see if an old dog can learn new tricks. What's he gonna do at PG for next season? Will he ride with ZZ and Edwards or dip his toes into the portal again?
According to the posters here, Edwards sucks and might as well transfer to TN Tech or UTC if he wants to play. They’ll probably say Dillone is too young too and need 3 to 4 years of development. Big “we have to play Mark Levine because he knows the blocking schemes” vibes here.
