Barnes on JJJ and JP - "it's up to them“

According to the posters here, Edwards sucks and might as well transfer to TN Tech or UTC if he wants to play. They’ll probably say Dillone is too young too and need 3 to 4 years of development. Big “we have to play Mark Levine because he knows the blocking schemes” vibes here.
Overdramatic claims presented as fact won't bolster your version of the truth.

No one said Edwards sucked.

No one said he should transfer.

No one has even suggested anything regarding Dilione, who of course, will have a greater head-start than Edwards, too.

And then the idea that you're implying we potentially have the basketball version of Jamal Lewis on the sideline just wasting away is pretty laughable.

About all that I’ve seen posted about Edwards are those pining for him to replace Key (a 6th year SR) and those with common sense that are pulling for BJE to develop into a major contributor as an upperclassman over a 4-year career at UT.

I'm saying my opinion is Edwards is a much better scorer but it is a moot point, because I won't be able to prove it since Barnes won't play any young guards unless he's forced to. Only an injury will get Edwards any significant playing time. It would be one thing if I was saying play Dillone, but Edwards has a whole season of practice under his belt.
You won’t be able to prove it because it’s something that you pulled out of your ass.

It's doesn't prove it. Just give someone else a chance. If your QB has thrown 4 Int. in a game, go to the backup.

So are you all just saying that Edwards sucks and will never be any good here. If that's the case, then fine. But if your argument is he's talented but too young and will make mistakes, that's a dumb reason not to at least give him a chance.

Literally no one has said that...lmao. You push a change with no real basis in fact or reality while creating false narratives that don't exist.

Early in the season is what the post you quoted is referencing. Rob Lewis reported multiple times on the VQ podcasts that there was nothing structurally wrong with his knee AFTER the procedure and the Doctor’s were lost for what was bothering him because nothing was showing up. No one doubted it hurt but playing couldn’t and wouldn’t damage anything because he was healed.

You also seemed to say JJJ was cleared to play with his ankle which is what I was referencing as that was not the case.

Hell, better off playing Dilione, guarantee he is a better scorer than Edwards. Might as well burn DJ Jefferson's redshirt, because he is probably a better scorer, too. Now, damn it, you got me putting down BJ, because of your insufferable bitching. I like him and think the kid will eventually play well for us. Just not ready, this year
My question is how will guys like Dillione and Jefferson look after a year of Barnes coaching? Seems like kids just lose their offense once Barnes works his magic on them. Is it the intensity they have to use playing defense that affects their offense or does he coach it out of them kind of like a drill sergeant does with marine recruits. He's gotta break 'em down before he can build 'em back up the way he's wants them to play? Gotta say Barnes is starting to remind me of Kevin O'Neill in some ways.

This narrative confuses me a bit…Jordan Bone, Jordan Bowden, Grant Williams, Admiral, Kyle Alexander, Pons, Fulky, Punter, Vescovi, Plav, Turner and I’m sure there’s more all seemed to get better offensively over their time at Tennessee from the time they got to campus.

Hasn’t been completely healthy in 4 years…unlikely he’d be 100% next year if he did return. Unfortunate as he’s a fine player when he’s rolling.
Supposedly he was asked about it this week and didn’t dismiss coming back. I still think it’s unlikely but he left the door open somewhat

Well, since next year will be their baseline there’s no way that you can determine how those guys will look after a year of Barnes coaching. But I’m sure that that won’t stop you from criticizing CRB if they aren’t putting up something close to double doubles.

I saw a quote from JJJ saying that this was the last run, although he could have been referring to as a group, I guess.

Don't see the need to run JJJ off. He was shooting well to start the year and is a great leader/voice on the floor. I think he will ultimately be a better coach than player, but he improved from yr 1 to yr 2 and showed well to start out yr 3 before being sidelined.

He really needs to focus on proving what scouts want to see from him on the court. Shoot 3s better and get to the rim more consistently. He is one of our few guards that can pull up decently and hit from the elbow. We were really dominant with him and Phillips on the floor. Why end it? Who else is coming in?

I know that was a harsh take, but Barnes offense has declined. I liked what we saw with guys like Punter. Lately, he doesn’t seem to be getting the production.

When you see what Stackhouse is doing, this guy is coaching way more offense and technical aspects than Barnes ever dreamed of.

What’s Stackhouse’s record again?

They are in fact 1 game difference in conference play. Stackhouse likely won’t make it, but it’s not because X and O coaching. It’s recruiting. He doesn’t appear very interested. But, when it comes to scheme, he’s definitely one of the best out there. I wouldn’t be surprised to see him coaching in the NBA. He understands and teaches the game at a high level.

As has JJJ.

I forget which coach but one of UT’s coaches also thinks very highly of Stackhouse’s coaching ability.

Hopefully we can get Phillips back for the final stretch run of the season
Uh...2 games left in the regular season plus at least 1 each in tournaments. There's a chance there are only 4 games left this year. How do you define a stretch run?

I think Edwards will be good with time. He'll have an expanded role next year for sure. He looks like he can attack the basket, and I think he's done a good job at facilitating when given the opportunity. He was never going to play big minutes this year, but that's alright. He's got good size for a PG at this level as well. Looks like good defense still has a decent ways to go, which is not uncommon at all. I'm excited for him longterm.
