Barry or Emmitt

Both were great in their own way....There will always be the argument, ..."If Barry had Emmitt's line...", and deservedly so. Imo, Emmitt would've been just another average back in Detroit.

Barry. That said, one should not discount Barry's line in Detroit; it was not as good as Dallas's but it was still damn good.

I don't see how you could pick Emmitt. Put Barry behind the line Smith had and OMG

Emmit stayed around for too long, but Barry quit in his prime.

I'd much rather have Earl Campbell or Walter Payton.

People tend to reinvent history and pretend that Detroit had a pathetic line. That's far from the truth.

I'm going Emmitt. Most accomplished player in NFL history. Maybe toughest dude to ever play the position. Also he was 100% dedicated to the sport. He wasn't quitting with the record in reach.

You can't go wrong with either one.

Most people don't know this but Emmitt broke Walter Payton's record in less games than it took Walter to set it. I would argue that Emmitt wasn't ineffective until his final season. Then he called it quits.

True, Barry played for some decent teams in Detroit, but nothing that comes close to those Dallas teams. I believe Barry Sanders might be the best RB of my lifetime.

Barry would have done it in fewer games than even Emmit did it.

Barry and it ain't even close.

Barry had Lomas Brown on his line for a good portion of his careeer, but that is it. He also had Wayne Fontes.

Emmit had a HOF quarterback, receiver, and several outstanding linemen to assist him. Yeah, Emmitt was tough. I give him that. But Barry Sanders having that same supporting cast would have had 3 2,000 yard seasons... easily.
