I've read all the BS bashing of our fan base. From Scott Van Pelt to others in the media, I can see that because many of them don't understand SEC football much less the complexity of the passion that we as SEC fans have of our football teams. Is it too much? Probably and yes it is an obsession to many of us (guilty as charged here).
What really cracks me up are the UT fans that are bashing our very own fans. I have no doubt in saying that we have one of the best if not the best fans in the nation. After all we've been through the past few years we're still very heavily engaged in the process. This fan base stood by a guy coaching our team for almost 3 years that shouldn't be allowed to coach a pee wee football team. Yet week after week for essentially 3 seasons we dragged ourselves to the stadium and many of us to each away game. I am a helluva lot more proud of our fans than I am our current administration at UT.
I am not against coach Jones in any way shape or form and I hope he is the most successful coach we've ever had. But NONE of you currently bashing our fan base was calling for him to be the coach. If you had an ounce of honesty you would admit it. So the fact that a bunch of our fans are a little underwhelmed should be no surprise to anyone and if you had half the brains God gave a blade of grass you should have expected it.
I tip my hat to my fellow Vol fans. Hopefully we will win enough to bring us all together.

It is what it is. They went after their "guy(s)." You go down the ladder until you get a hire. Everyone just wanted Gruden. Leaves a sour taste in any Vol fan's mouth to not get your #1 guy. We need to fully get behind him until he gives us a reason not too. All Jones!!! Go Vols!!

UT is rotten from the inside. Jones was an underwhelming hire. He will do better than the previous coach but he ain't the creme of the crop.

You would think that we could all unite in our dislike for Dave Hart, who just orchestrated the biggest cluster**** of a coaching search ever. It baffles me that some still think he is doing a great job.

The epicenter of that "rot" starts with Jimmy Cheek. I'm not gonna write some of what I know because it would be too unbelievable for people to believe.

Hart did us no favors by being an idiot through the whole process.

Agree 100% I just hate when the media acts like we are crazy for having high expectations for our football program. Just because we are down they are piling on. Bammer, ND, Michigan, most if not all big programs have had long stretches of bad seasons. The media acts like we have never been relevant and it just pissed me off. And like you said ho, Hart did us no favors by conducting a very weak search imo.

Not standing up for Hart. But I promise you Cheek is the single biggest anchor strapped to our program. Nothing or no one else even comes close.

Many of us don't follow other teams to know what good coaches are really out there. I don't pretend to know about things I am unsure about. Most VN readers base their opinion on what they read on here, which isn't good research, and he wasn't on the supposed VN list that included Gruden and Carrol.
What you are saying is that we shouldn't be happy because he wasn't on a list that a bunch of internet posters went by.
I was happy to read and hear a lot about him. Things I never heard about Dooley. And I think its perfectly fine for people to form an opinion based on their own research, as well as trust professional opinions such as Peyton and Mort among others, vs those on this site that tell us those guys don't know wtf they are talking about.

No, not everyone wanted a NFL analyst with no current recruiting experience. Welcome CBJ

Nothing you could say about Cheek would surprise me. He reminds me of the Dean in Necessary Roughness that did everything he could to destroy the football program.

The management of the Pr is what was horrendous , it didn't take a genius to see what was building up. And to put out on this island for the whole world to see was astonishing. It was so bad that one could only assume the gruden thing was legit. If it comes out that , for sure, gruden was never an option ,and they still let it fester out of control. IMO someone should lose their job. I think people wouldn't have been so disappointed if the gruden thing had not been so intense.

Your right, afterall his record at UT so far is 0-0. We got alot of self-righteous prophets who actually know nothing on here these days.

Hart and even Butch himself both stated yesterday he wasn't Harts first choice so whether he listened to abunch of internet posters or not he didn't get HIS guy. Jones was a last minute hire and everyone knows it. We just have to hope it turns out to be a great hire.

Don't sell yourself short about pretending to know things you really don't, Sparty. I mean, you're the only guy on VN that is smart enough to know the difference between quitting and giving up.

I can't argue with that at all. If there's any problem with the fans, in my opinion, is that they don't demand enough from the program.

Again, I agree. Saying I think Butch Jones is going to win here wouldn't make me more of a fan. It would just make me a liar.
