Basic Income

I moved to Connecticut after graduating from U.T. in 1972 with everything that I owned in my car. I moved back 2 years later with everything in the smallest U-Haul trailer behind the car. Within 6 or 7 years, I moved in a 24 foot box truck. It has been downhill ever since.

I moved into my first and only apartment with a duffle bag, trash bag, backpack and inflatable mattress.

Having been there many years ago, there is something to be said for having everything to fit in the trunk of a car.
There is a lot of truth in this, but after awhile condo/apartment living gets old. I can walk out on my front patio stark naked if I want. In apartments, you have to worry about the TV being too loud. To each his own I guess.

Yup. Interesting that they note that giving people money doesnt fix the underlying issues and they pretty much stay as they are.

Too bad this science will get ignored.

Willing to bet our welfare programs have a similar success rate.

No amount of welfare reform will cure the three things that ail us.

1) an economy evolving so quickly as based on tech that the workforce can't keep up in terms of being qualified to do it.

2) a middle class squeezed by an increasing cost of living but no income growth.

3) a government that manipulates regulation and the tax code to the point that we have unsustainable centralization of wealth and power.

The last of these could end the country.

Your #2 is a result of your #1 which is a result of public education

National sales tax. Same rate for all purchases. Same rate for everyone. No corporate exceptions. Nothing duty free.

Eliminate income tax. No loopholes to exploit.

Eliminate IRS. Turn them on the federal government to find waste.

You want to buy a Rolls Royce you pay .
You want to buy a used beater you pay.
You want a mansion you pay.
You buy a trailer you pay.
You have been ducking income taxes with your team of tax lawyers you pay.
You're a drug dealer you pay.

While I’m not entirely opposed to another stimulus to help Americans, we just can keep it up. The nation’s debt went up over a trillion dollars in a month. We are screwed anyway, but we are absolutely crippling multiple generations of Americans.

While I think this is a plausible idea, you will find that some people will complain to high heaven that sales taxes are regressive. I myself don't believe that. I still think a flat income tax on EVERYONE and EVERY CORPORATION is the way to go.

At what rate? 10%?

LOL. Sounds familiar. My first apartment was a 16 foot square covered in dark brown shag carpet and I had two more tackle boxes and 4 more fishing rods than I had beds.

Taxes are the single biggest barrier to building wealth. Most are taxed at 50% or greater of income when all taxes are added together.
Federal Income
SS
Medicare
State Income taxes
Property Tax
Capital Gains

Exactly. Some states, a paycheck is taxes 5-6 times. It is insane, yet the people who move from those states bring their voting habbits with them.
