Basillio's X says UT coaches kicking themselves

Question. In an earlier thread I can't find now, it was reported that Crowder and Downs from Bristol both have 4.0 grades, and could qualify for academic scholarships. People were asking if they did that and walked on, would it not count against our total. Then someone else said they would. Couldn't ask that poster at the time. Does anyone know if this could work out, coming in as walk-ons on academic scholarships and not counting against our total? Both are EE's.

Thats a very good question. Something tells me that they're going to be counted though. Mainly because I can't remember seeing that before.

Maybe someone else has an explanation? If they could, that would be amazing.

As far as I know, athletic and academic scholarships are two separate entities, so it wouldn't count.

i think there's some rule in place preventing or limiting the amount of academic grants/scholarship a D1 player on a roster can accept. i believe it stems from when a third of nebraska's starters officially didn't count against their 85 because they were on academic scholarship.

It's a business. Feelings may get hurt, but you gotta do what's best for the program, not the individuals.

That was speculative on X's part. It wasn't stated like it was known fact. In fact IIRC he said I BET the coaching staff is kicking themselves. X doesn't know any more than we do on how the coaches feel about currently committed prospects.

If this were true the problem is the 3* guys that they would most likely want to tell to look elsewhere are in state kids. That would create in state recruiting issues for years to come if they did that.

IMHO, do not expect any of the current commits to be pushed away by the staff. Only way any are decommitting is if they do so on their own accord.

Im sure all this info is correct. Lord knows our biggest problem is that we have all these 4 and 5 star guys beatin down our coaches doors to come to UT. I know the coaches have got to be tired of telling them to just look somewhere else because we dont have the room for ya. We must be the only school in America with this unique problem, our coaches dont even have to travel to recruit, they're just sittin in their offices saying, "no, go away". One last thing, if Dooley and crew dont have what it takes to recruit with the big dogs, why all of the sudden are we having these crazy issues? Seems to me that the people with the same opinion as the OP are the same ones that say DD cant recruit because he can only get 3 star players, so why now are we worrying about 5 stars being told thanks but no thanks? Makes absolutely no sense. JMO

Gotta love a source (X) that never reveals who he is while at the same time claiming all these breaking leaks from the program. Basillio is a hack and so is his imaginary source X

Basillio reporting on his show today that his "insider", X, told him last night that UT's coaches are behind closed doors kicking themselves for taking some of the 3* commits that they took earlier in the year. Little did they know what would materialize with the Florida, Miami openings along with turmoil at UGA and how many recruits would still legitimately be in play for Tennessee at this point in time.

It'll be interesting to see if they're gonna tell some of our commits to start looking elsewhere.

Not to shoot the messenger but this ain't news.

If it is then I also want to tell you that we are now at war in Afghanistan.

If this is right then Dooley and the rest of coaches will take what is best for Tennessee. If they are back in it for some because of what happened at Miami,Florida, or wherever then they will tell some that are commited to look elsewhere. We were not in the running for these guys at the start of the season. But after the Vols played pretty good the recruits can see Dooley is getting it fixed.

There is basically only one way that they can not be counted against you. The player would have had to been accepted to the school and awarded the academic scholarship before any of the coaches could have contacted that kid about playing.

If the staff has previously identified the athlete as a prospect and has had any dealings with that athlete, then it has to be counted towards the normal football take for a given year.

It's hilarious to read through this thread and see people trying to pound their chest about how we shouldn't have taken so many commitments. It's hilarious because it's based on a rumor by an unnamed source who has a history of being full of s***. Keep sticking your chests out and mocking the staff and the fans who've supported their process though, it's entertaining.

Yeah. That's POSSIBLE, IF Downs and Crowder had applied to Tennessee long before they actually talked to a coach. I mean, Seniors apply to multiple schools to see if they can get in and what they can get, but if you're a highly touted recruit, then you probably don't apply until you've got some offers. But if Mack and Brendan applied to UT, and UT had already sent them offers before then, they'd be okay.

But....I just don't think that happened. They're going to end up counting.

Lol @ this thread. Again basilio comes up with some fabricated story that is simply common knowledge anyone could have thought of. Of course we'd love some guys Miami and UF have. No one knew the coaching changes would happen though. So questioning our current commits is and should be frowned upon.

He is far less a hack than you are: for real!!!! No Offense!!! He is a fan and in the media. Just deal with that! You can be both just ask Keith Olbermann. I know Wes Rucker and others have become turn coats and have turned their backs on the vols to be "professional" Media. But I prefer to hear info from someone who cares about the vols!!!!

Yes, I wear orange colored glasses and love it!!!!:loco::loco::loco::loco::loco:
