Calvin, from Cathedral (Los Angeles), is ranked as the No. 36 wide receiver by the 247Sports Composite. Calvin had 86 catches for more than 1,300 yards with 17 touchdowns.

His finalists had been Alabama, Nebraska, Notre Dame, Oregon State and Washington State with many analysts thinking he would be heading to Nebraska. He also received a New Year’s Day offer from Baylor.

@max_olson how much has Rhules fast start at Baylor surprised you?
11:31 AM - 24 Jan 2017

Max Olson, ESPN: I'm not surprised I'm getting this question every week in the mailbag. Getting to 20 commits in four weeks is quite a feat, as is flipping three legit ESPN 300 players. Too many people are sleeping on their Charlie Brewer take at QB, too. Clearly kids on official visits are really connecting with Matt Rhule, the staff he put together and the vision Baylor is using to sell the program. Their ability to forge those relationships in such a short amount of time makes me think they'll be able to do some impressive things over the next 12 months with their 2018 class.

FSU and Artis part ways
Chris Nee - 2 hours ago 44

Florida State and three-star linebacker DeMarco Artis of Sanford (Fla.) Seminole have parted ways.

"Unfortunately, yes," Artis tells Noles247.com when asked if the two parties had parted ways.

Artis is likely to visit Oregon this weekend. He visited Baylor last weekend.

FSU is focused on linebackers Levi Jones, a four-star from Austin (Texas) Westlake, and Leonard Warner, a four-star from Snellville (Ga.) Brookwood, to close out their class at the position.

Offer came out mid Dec. He committed to Colorado but looks like he's leaning toward BU again.

Three-star defensive end Justin Harris has narrowed his options and it’s a battle between LSU and Baylor for his services.

“I’m down to LSU and Baylor,” Harris told GN. “I already visited LSU (this past weekend) and I’m visiting Baylor (this) weekend.”

Harris (6 feet 6, 250 pounds), from Gonzales (La.) East Ascension, is among the top-25 strongside defensive ends nationally and one of the top-25 overall prospects in Louisiana. He told GN he has not yet been offered by LSU.

Rivals Nat'l Recruiting Director-5 Underrated and 5 Overated 2017 Classes
https://n.rivals.com/news/three-poin...2017-decommits

Underrated:

5. Baylor – Baylor was in ruins before Matt Rhule took over and now they are putting together a very respectable class with some true sleepers. The Bears have gone from pariah to putting together a class that will keep them competitive in the Big 12.

Overrated:

5. Texas– The Longhorns make this list because of my expectations when Tom Herman was hired. The Longhorns will close well enough to push near or into the top 15 and linebacker Gary Johnson is an instant-impact guy, but I expected a few more big-time guys to show interest down the stretch. I wasn’t expecting miracles, like a Marvin Wilson commitment, but maybe landing Houston five-star OT Walker Little or receiving more interest from some of the in-state top 15 was expected. It is very likely Texas will strike out on the top 10 in-state players for the first time ever. That’s not all on Herman of course, but still unexpected.

I checked out a thread on baylorfans (page 5) this morning titled "BU Now #32 Ranked Recruiting Class on Rivals" and found this:

Gonna have to check that thread more often, although this gif should have been posted on the "Running List of Commits" thread!

Just saw this on CBS Sports:

New lawsuit alleges 52 'acts of rape' by 31 Baylor players, sex used to sell recruits - CBSSports.com

Well that Baylor Bruins thing reminds me of He Got Game or Blue Chips...well except for that pesky gang rape thing. Definitely a reclamation project for Rhule. Guess we should be glad we didn't hire either Briles.

New Baylor lawsuit alleges 52 rapes by football players in 4 years, 'show 'em a good time' culture

The lawsuit describes a culture of sexual violence under former Baylor football coach Art Briles in which the school implemented a "show 'em a good time" policy that "used sex to sell" the football program to recruits. That included escorting underage recruits to strip clubs and arranging women to have sex with prospective players, the suit alleges.

Former assistant coach Kendal Briles — the son of the head coach — once told a Dallas-area student athlete, "Do you like white women? Because we have a lot of them at Baylor and they love football players," according to the suit.

Investigation by lawyers identified at least 52 "acts of rape," including five gang rapes, by 31 football players in a four-year period. At least two of the gang rapes were committed by 10 or more players at one time, the suit states.

That's some heinous stuff right there. I wonder if Rhule is letting prospective recruits know that they'll probably have to find somewhere else to play when the NCAA drops the death penalty on Baylor.

Committed to Baylor.

Top 30 class, #2 in Big 12

Per Rivals, Artis's commitment now gives Baylor the #30 class in the country, and the #2 class in the Big 12, behind a LOADED OU class.

Texas is likely to pass us on signing day, but potential commits Justin Harris and Chris Miller give us the potential to keep a top 30 class.

This would be better than all but Briles' 2016 class. Briles didn't reel in a top-40 class until 2012, after the Heisman.

Art never had a top 25 class? I find that somewhat interesting

BJ Thompson Choses Baylor

B.J. Thompson, England, Tight End

6-7 205 Ath England, Ak

Offers from: Baylor, Florida St, Utah, Wash St, Texas, Army, Cincinnati, Kansas, Memphis, Purdue and others.

Definition of a late bloomer. His recruitment exploded at the last second. 4* on 247, still only listed as a 2* on rivals. The star system still isn't an exact science though... :spank:

2016 was his best "signed" class (#27) but the Top Ten of that group were granted releases from their LOIs upon his suspension/termination.

2017 was a Top Ten class until chit went south.
