BCS Standings

There is no doubt in my mind that if Memphis, Marshall, and Georgia would have won that we would have been ranked higher.

Those losses killed us in the computers.

There is only .041 between 8th and 11th.

I know. And then also factor in our one loss was by a single point to a team higher then us...and not a 17 point loss to a team ranker lower then them (auburn).

I think you're right . . . the UGA loss especially really hurt. But these rankings are bound to be pretty volatile.

Mark my words guys. There will be a week when we win, and our opponents have a good week, and we will suddenly "jump" 3-4 spots.

The numbers will work themselves out if Tennessee keeps winning.

Oh well, the good thing is, we're only halfway through the season. I guess things will take care of themselves if the Vols can find a way to win out.

We should be in front of Cal, that pisses me off......We'll take care of it though..That really shocks me though...Auburn being at #4 shocks me as well...But oh well, that's the beauty of college football I guess

I think we can pretty well forget any bizarre scenario that would send us to NC game & that being the case, I hope USC drums Cal...!

There's nothing beautiful about the BCS.

Why is it that they took the strength of schedule out of the BCS formula?

Auburn's schedule has included 3 BCS teams (LSU/UF/Ark).

We've played 1 BCS team and have 2 BCS teams left on our schedule.

Cal has played 2 BCS teams and has one left.

Before anyone loses it, I'm questioning the standings that the original poster offered. Unless someone has inside information on several of the computer polls, then it is impossible to accurately compute the standings. To my knowledge, all that is public so far is the USAToday, Harris Interactove, Sagarin, and Wolfe. Colley has released his formula so those can be computed. Still need Billingsley, Massey, and Anderson-Hester.

I think preseason polls are the real problem. They rank teams too high (ND, Texas) because of what sportswriters think about teams WITH NOTHING TO BASE IT ON.

So, a texas team with 1 loss will be ranked higher than a Tennessee team with 1 loss, only because Texas started at 2 or 3 and UT at 20 or 23.
