BCS Standings

The more i think about it

We left the north because of this same thing(well kinda). We got tired of the taxation and all the crap from the north. I say when bowl games come up the sec teams don't show, have its own playoff. I will pay more to see UT/UF again in the the same season and AK/AU. Its all about money. The sec would get more money from this that the bowl games. The tv stations would have to pick it up demand. If every sec fan would quit (as i have) watching anything other than sec games. Someone would take note.

my love to cbs and Lincoln Financial Sports

Take 1 and 2 from east and west 1 plays 2 then winners play each other.

That would be some money.

You could get money by getting fans all around to donate money to scrap the fraud of the BCS.

NO Joke.

Wow, unbelievable.

It'll fix itself when we finish 11-1.
Exactly... The BCS is not designed to be right at ANY POINT during the season... It's designed to be correct at the END OF THE SEASON.

Why is it that they took the strength of schedule out of the BCS formula?
So the rest of the SEC can schedule all the cupcakes they want and not pay the penalty like Auburn did in '04.

Right now, all of you guys look like the biggest group of whiners I've ever seen. The BCS isn't supposed to be correct right now. SHUT UP and pull for your team. Wow.

It is pulling to the team exp when cal and the top 5 gets the all the praise. It reflects on recruits. Can't get noticed at UT but you can at cal.

Milo, your point is taken, but that logic is a little shaky. Maybe the BCS is supposed to be MOST correct at the end of the season, but with all things being equal right now, there are a couple of rankings that just don't make sense. I agree that we shouldn't be too worked up about the rankings in week 1, but any system where you beat a team by 18 points only to have them ranked ahead of you is tough to explain.

It sucks... I know.

Every year since the BCS came out, it's just been cry, cry, cry from every fan base that gets slighted in any way. This season is especially bad. Oklahoma fans (and the Uniersity itself) has PMS'd so much it makes my stomach turn. I don't want the Tennessee fan base to fall into the same trap. Trust me, guys, there's no quicker way to lose national respect than an unparralleled bitchfest.

Actually, there is. It's to have conference whose officials are so incompetent they become a national punchline.

wow. this sucks. how in the !@#$ can you put cal above tennessee when we beat the crap out of them first game of the the season. what the heck do we have to do??? this is ridiculous.

To answer the question about why the Strength of Schedule (SOS) was removed from the BCS formula.... they felt it was redundant since most of the computers have a built in SOS factor.

Someone else pointed out that it will be hard to move up in the rankings.... right and wrong.... the 'human' polls are as difficult as always to move up (where the Vols are currently ranked 8th and 9th), but the computer rankings are very fluid. The Vols average last week was 6th, but after not playing this week fell to 12th. How did that happen? Well, before the Vols played Georgia, the computer average was 12th... then beat Ga and jumped to 6th.... Ga loses to Vandy, and drops back to 12th (coupled with Memphis losing on a last second hail mary to Arkansas State, Marshall's loss, and Florida's loss).

Its still too early to be looking at the BCS rankings. It is not just set up for the end of the season, but really geared towards selecting nos. 1 and 2.

The Vols need to focus on 1 thing right now and that is winning the East. Auburn beating Florida opened the door of hope that the Vols need, but the Vols need to take care of business first.

As for the BCS and the computer formulas, if the Vols continue winning.... it will work itself out as 5 of the Vols last 6 opponents are in the top 50 (computer avg) and Kentucky is not too far behind at 58th.

Another interesting note that Jerry Palm states on his BCS website: "Both Tennessee and Auburn could end up 11-1 and not play in the SEC title game. They would likely be the highest rated teams in the SEC and one could even play for the national title if everything broke right."

Auburn's computer rating avg is 5th, but will take a huge hit over the next several weeks. They play against the 91st (Tulane), 77th (Ole Miss), and 86th (Ark State) in the next 3 ballgames. The SOS I mentioned above will get them here. Not only did the BCS get rid of the separate SOS, but it required the computers to eliminate scoring margin. So running up the score on California would make no difference. All the computer ratings judge each winand loss as if it was by 1-point.

I Am Extremly Pissed....does Anyone Know Who We Can Send Nasty Letters Too, How Do You Puit Cal In Front Of Us When We Blew Them Out......this Bcs Crap Has To Really Go Its Ruining College Football

I am so freaking MAD. How is Cal ahead of us.......... HOW

Can you imagine how mad Auburn fans were in 04

I'd like to think that the BCS standings are like a jigsaw puzzle. Early on, only a few peices are in place- making it look ugly and incomplete. As the season goes on, more peices will fall in place, and it will look much better toward the end.

*hoping*

Just read this on ESPN:

Alex, Tn: How can Cal be ahead of UT, when they both have a one loss record and UT won the head to head matchup

sn2.gif
Brad Edwards: (12:32 PM ET ) Great question. Cal's advantage in the computers is overriding Tennessee's edge in the polls. It may come as a surprise to most people, but the computers consider the Pac-10 to be the strongest conference, which gives Cal a boost. Although computers do process facts, head-to-head results aren't necessarily among the facts being analyzed. They just see two teams with the same record and believe Cal has done it against a tougher schedule. I agree it's wrong, but there are inconsistencies throughout the polls, too. Why, for example, is Tennessee ranked ahead of Florida in both polls after the Gators beat the Vols in Knoxville?

And this:

Matt (Seattle, WA): If Cal wins out and beats USC in LA, like many Pac-10 observers think they will, do they have a shot at the NC Game?

sn2.gif
Brad Edwards: (1:37 PM ET ) The biggest challenge for Cal would be becoming the highest-ranked (or at least the second-highest-ranked) one-loss team in the polls. We all know tradition shouldn't matter, but it does with voters. No matter how well the team is playing, Cal might have a tough time leaping someone like Texas, Auburn, Florida or Notre Dame. And let's be honest here. If Cal and Tennessee both finish 11-1, the Vols should be ranked ahead of the Bears because of what happened on Sept. 2 in Knoxville.
