Be Prepared: The backup plan at HC is Curt Cignetti

IUP= Indiana University of Pennsylvania.

Cignetti's main claim to fame is coaching Rivers at NC ST and he has ties to Majors going back to Pitt.

His brother Frank Jr. was on my list to replace Fulmer.

Helluva coaching family but this is NOT what UT needs right now. If Hart slips this far down his list, the program is in serious trouble.

How quickly we forget that Chip Kelly was a no name, radical coach from New Hampshire and Malzahn was some high-school loon. Good coaching is at every level. Now, with that said, name recognition is paramount with this hire.

If we can't get Strong, Mora, a Pro coach/assistant, then I would definitely go for the best available - even if he is a "google" hire. I would rather this than just hiring Smart because he is a "known" commodity. Coach Pearl was pretty much a "google" hire. A few people may have known about Pearl because he was in the NCAA tourney, but otherwise, he fit this description.

I would give most anybody a chance, as long as they can bring in top assistants.

He coached under majors. I'd recon that's the source. He's coaching where is dad did and he's never been a coordinator.

Color me underwhelmed.

If this is the hire Hart should basically just step up to the podium and say:

"Yeah, I got nothing. Sorry."

Thankfully I do not see us getting close to that.

  • Curt & Dave Hart are good friends going back to their shared time at Alabama and due to their relationship Curt was able to secure an interview where I heard he crushed it.
  • Curt Cignetti is currently the Head Coach at IUP where he's gone 17-4 in his first 2 seasons as head coach. Curt is a very good coach and worked under Nick Saban as Alabama's recruiting coordinator laying the groundwork for 2 National Championship winning teams
  • Curt's younger brother Frank Cignetti is the QB coach of the NFL's St Louis Rams and will likely take over as Offensive Coordinator
Many will not like the possiblity of Curt Cignetti as the coach but with his background under Saban & coaching experience I think he may be a steal of a hire.:salute:

wouldn't be a good idea...Fans aren't looking a coach they need to Google to find out who they are

Why is this even a thread? No data backed guesses, just a random damn you pulled. No links or reputed sources at all say this.

Not saying this is even remotely true, but no links or sources reported Arky hiring BB from Wisconsin either.

Our recent experience with a Saban Recruiting Coordinator worked out just great--if you are the rest of the SEC.

I knew this sounded familiar...just replace CC with DD and we have what we got 3 years ago.

Congratulations, on a day of incredibly stupid overreaction threads you've managed to come up with the stupidest one of all.

This won't happen, and I'm not sure why you made it up.

Just say no to Div II coaches.

All of his coaching experience is in Division I!

He was hired by Johnny Majors and coached under him at Pitt and he coached & developed Philip Rivers at NC State before he went to Alabama under Saban.

Cignetti's name has been linked to the NC State & Southern Miss job openings because he went to Div II simply to gain head coaching experience where his father once coachd.

Div II coaches are bad?

Brian Kelly was at Grand Valley State
Chip Kelly was at New Hampshire
Jim Tressel was at Youngstown State

Those turned out to be great hires.

I believe that Curt Cignetti & his brother would be able to turn Bray into the #1 QB drafted in 2014. Both have plenty of experience developing QB's and WR's.

If he is the guy I'd be willing to bet the house on him getting us to a National Championship in his first 5 seasons. All we needed is a semi-competent coach the last few seasons and Kiffin was a spoiled child while Dooley was in over his head.

Some guys you can just identify as being the type of possibly great coach & Cignetti has enough connections in his background to make me think he is.
