It's always good to have a back-up plan to the back-up plan of the back-up back-up plan.

At the rate we're going, this will be our guy. X( Cignetti or Fedora. Just take me out and shoot me if we hire either of those guys...

I have an MS and BS from UT hanging on my wall. They'll be going in the closet with countless other UT stuff I have throughout my apartment if this is announced. I'll go find an NFL team to root for. Hell, maybe even hockey....oh wait.

Winning big will get everyone's support no matter the name - just hire the guy that can do it.

This clown is Division 2.

He would get eaten alive in the SEC.

Just because he as an .81 record doesnt mean he can blow away competition in the SEC.

We need someone who can command respect and that the recruits know.

You just HAD to remind me of the NHL lock-out!

*weeps bitterly because his sports teams suck* :cray:

Indiana at Pennsylvania? Which is it!? That's an oxymoron.

I know nothing of this man or his college--but didn't Tressel come from a tiny, obscure college too?

I was so excited about hockey season and seeing some Blackhawks games this season because I just moved from TN to Illinois a few months ago. I'm still waiting, hah. Bears tickets are just too damn expensive and I'm not big on the NBA.

I would rather have Cignetti than Strong and I just heard of him on this thread. Both would be huge gambles, but I bet Cignetti would be a LOT cheaper (if the numbers reported for strong are at all true) and we probably would not have the huge buyout issues. Since their both gambles, I guess I would prefer we take the chance where we could lose the least -- if that even makes sense. It is late.

  • Curt & Dave Hart are good friends going back to their shared time at Alabama and due to their relationship Curt was able to secure an interview where I heard he crushed it.
  • Curt Cignetti is currently the Head Coach at IUP where he's gone 17-4 in his first 2 seasons as head coach. Curt is a very good coach and worked under Nick Saban as Alabama's recruiting coordinator laying the groundwork for 2 National Championship winning teams
  • Curt's younger brother Frank Cignetti is the QB coach of the NFL's St Louis Rams and will likely take over as Offensive Coordinator

Many will not like the possiblity of Curt Cignetti as the coach but with his background under Saban & coaching experience I think he may be a steal of a hire.:salute:

I can think of another coach who was a Saban product. Who was a bit of an unknown. Who was considered a steal from a smaller program...

Yeah $500k cheap. No reason this guy should even be considered and no way he deserves anything close to a seven figure deal.

While his record is much better than what Dooley's was when he was hired, even I think this one is a stretch. If this really was indeed plan C (or D, F and on), then I'd be much more comfortable with bringing Fulmer back and making this guy the HC in waiting to lessen the gamble. At that point use Fulmer to somewhat man the ship, help get the rest of the staff in place.

However, that whole scenario wreaks of desperation, just shy of naming an interim coach for next year and cutting our losses...

How quickly we forget that Chip Kelly was a no name, radical coach from New Hampshire and Malzahn was some high-school loon. Good coaching is at every level. Now, with that said, name recognition is paramount with this hire.

not going to argue about kelley since i don't know his full resume but Malzahn is not a good comparison. He was a winner in highschool, then became a very great OC in college where he was then hired by Chizik then leaves & wins the sunbelt. He has proven he can win at any level.

not good comparison since Cignetti has not proven as much yet

It's about who you surround yourself with. Cignetti would hire a staff of great assistants. He's dominating at his school.

If that happens then Hart needs to be locked out of his office with the locks changed and his personal stuff should be boxed up and set out on the street for when he returns from NY.

In other words, he should be fired immediately, and possibly even sued for malpractice !!!

Amen. I can't get off of VolNation. It's seriously stressing me out that the Cliff Notes thread hasn't been updated in a while. This coaching search will be the death of me!

probably because the cliff notes has turned into a novel
